Following the tragic news of Erica Ash’s death, the actress’ family has confirmed her passing. Best known for her role in the ‘Scary Movie’ and the Kevin Hart series Real Husbands of Hollywood, the comedic actress passed away at 46.
Erica Ash Cause of Death
On Monday, July 29, 2024, Ash’s mother, Diana Ash, confirmed to TMZ that her 46-year-old daughter had passed away. It was confirmed that Ash passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, in Los Angeles, following a prolonged and private battle with cancer. BET initially announced her death, although the entertainment giants have deleted the post.
The Announcement
Diana, speaking to TMZ, said, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Erica Chantal Ash. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she transitioned peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.”
Subsequently, after announcing Ash’s passing, Diana spoke about her daughter’s life, character, and success. Describing Ash, Diana said she was a remarkable woman and gifted performer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and liveliness. Diana stated that the memory and impact made by Ash on their lives will live forever in their hearts.

Additionally, Diana asked that all donations go to foundations that fight cancer. Diana told TMZ, “In honor of Erica’s memory, the family asks that any donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or the Breast Cancer Foundation of your choice. We are grateful for the kind expressions of love and support during this difficult time.” However, Diana did not disclose the type of cancer that Ash passed away from.
Online Reaction To Erica Ash’s Passing
Before the death interview with TMZ confirmed Ash’s death, Roland Martin, a radio host, posted to his X account. Martin made various tweets announcing her death and the friendship between them. In one of the tweets, Martin claimed to know her “well.” In the post he made, he uploaded a series of pictures of himself and Ash having a conservation.
However, among the series of tweets Martin put out, he gave Kamala Harris a presidential endorsement on Ash’s behalf. Martin said, “Erica was an amazing, talented, funny, and serious actress. I adored her. She was serious about politics and would have been one of Kamala Harris’s biggest supporters. Pray for her family.”
Shortly after Martin’s post, one of Ash’s very close friends, Loni Love, announced her passing. Love said, “I am sad to confirm my friend and fellow actress Erica Ash’s passing. Ash was talented and hilarious whether it was the show Survivor’s Remorse or MadTV, she would put her all into her work. She would always just be there. now she’s gone. My sincere condolences to her family and fans.”

Erica Ash
On September 19, 1977, Erica Chantal Ash was born in Florida to Donald and Diann Ash. However, since her parents were both in the American armed forces, the family frequently moved, living in Germany and other countries.
In her early years, she went to a performing arts school in Atlanta, Georgia. Ash intended to become a doctor. He prepared for medical school by earning a pre-medicine degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
However, Ash decided to pursue a career in entertainment after visiting Japan, where she worked as a runway model and backing vocalist. Ash was an American actress, comedian, singer, and model. She starred in the Starz sitcom Survivor’s Remorse after appearing in the sketch comedy shows MadTV and The Big Gay Sketch Show.

Ash secured several employment offers in Broadway productions such as The Lion King and a two-week assignment in Germany in February 2006. She had a successful audition for The Big Gay Sketch Show, a comedy show on cable television, after her return from Germany. Ash spent two seasons as a cast member.

Ash had to divide her time between The Lion King and the first season of the sketch show while she was a cast member. Among her personas was LaTanya, a boisterous, impolite fitness instructor who conducts courses with a “Chicago-style” flavor (Chicago-style pilates, for example, Chicago-style yoga).
Along with Matt Braunger, Eric Price, and Lauren Pritchard, Ash became a featured performer on MADTV in 2008 for the show’s 14th season. In the history of the program, she became the fifth African-American female cast member (the previous four being Daheli Hall, Nicole Randall Johnson, Daniele Gaither, and Debra Wilson).
Ash and Hall are the only two of the five female African-American cast members who never received a promotion to repertory player. Ash continued to be a prominent cast member of MADtv throughout the 14th and last season of the FOX series.
