Britney Spears’ marriage life has come under the spotlight yet again. This time, her ex-husband Sam Asghari has disclosed in a recent interview his challenging role as her partner. He revealed the greatest headache he encountered as her husband, which, contrary to what he expected, wasn’t her celebrity status.
Asghari named her conservatorship as his biggest problem in the marriage. He described it as the “weirdest thing” about their marital life. Asghari stated that he initially thought Spears’ massive popularity would pose the greatest roadblock in the marriage, but he was in for a shock.
Speaking on the “Sibling Revelry” podcast with hosts Kate and Oliver Hudson, he related his shock when he came face-to-face with the problem. “One day I start learning about what the conservatorship is, and that’s when I was like, ‘Wait a minute. I thought I’m in America. What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?’”
According to the 30-year-old actor, “That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I’ve witnessed in my life.” Asghari then stated that his love for the star meant that he had to give her all the backing she needed. “I think the best thing to do is to provide support in that moment, and that’s what I did; I provided as much as I could.”
During the troubling period, he recalled how he practically walked on eggshells around her. He was scared of upsetting her delicate mood. “This was my experience in life that I had to go through very gently because if you do anything wrong, you say the wrong thing,” he recalled.

How Long Were Britney Spears and Sam Asghari Together?
Sam Asghari, who is an Iran native, was married to the 43-year-old pop star for 14 months. They reportedly first met in 2016 while Asghari was on a Spears video shoot set. Spears and Asghari connected while she shot a video for her “Slumber Party” music track.
From there, the attraction blossomed into friendship as they both began to appear in public together. It didn’t take long before dating rumors began to circulate. One month after they met, Asghari posted a photo of himself and Spears enjoying each other’s company in a restaurant.
They followed it up with another post in January 2017. This time, Asghari appeared on Spears’ Instagram account. The singer posted both of them singing into the new year in each other’s arms. After many other outings and social media posts, Asghari popped the question.
The proposal took place on September 12, 2021. Thereafter, the couple took to Instagram to make the announcement. In addition, Asghari’s manager, Brandon Cohen, explained further in a statement he released to People magazine.
“The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication, and love expressed to them,” he announced. He also noted that he was “proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement.”
On June 9, 2022, the couple tied the knot. They said their vows in a Los Angeles venue in a private ceremony that had less than 70 guests in attendance. Among the attendees were top Hollywood personalities such as Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Madonna.
What Led to Britney Spears and Sam Asghari’s Divorce?
On August 16, 2023, sources confirmed that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari had split. Asghari filed for divorce while court documents stated that they separated on July 28. According to the documents, marital infidelity and “irreconcilable difference” were the reason for the application.
“It’s been very toxic between them for a long time,” one source stated. “There has been constant drama. It’s sad. A divorce would be devastating for Britney,” another said. Probably, the psychological effect of the conservatorship drama led to the friction between the pair.

Sources had disclosed that Asghari had been a solid support for the pop star during the tough days which began even before they got married. “Sam has been Britney’s rock for years. He makes sure that she eats well and works out,” the insider revealed. “She leans on him for everything. He works and has his own life too, but is around as much as he can.”
Reports also stated that Asghari, whose net worth is estimated at $5 million, requested spousal support and legal fees from his ex-wife. They finally concluded the divorce in May 2024 after a court ruling ordered that they stick to their prenup. This meant that Spears got to keep her personal items, including the wealth she had before, during, and after the marriage.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari do not have any kids together. But they were once close to having one. Less than a year after their engagement, Britney Spears announced that she and Sam Asghari were going to have a baby.
She announced on her Instagram page in a post that included a pink tea set and matching flowers. She went on to talk about her and Asghari’s recent vacation to Maui. Afterward, she made the big announcement.
“I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back … I thought, ‘Geez … what happened to my stomach ???’ My husband said, ‘No, you’re food pregnant, silly !!!’ So I got a pregnancy test,” she wrote. “And … am having a baby.” Unfortunately, she lost the baby to a miscarriage the next month.
