Rosemary Margaret Hobor is a Canadian-born artist. She rose to the limelight as the wife of John Franklin Candy (aka John Candy), a comedian and well-respected actor. Hobor’s husband was a Canadian-born actor who rose to prominence in the 1980s. Candy is primarily famous for his role in “Planes,” “Trains,” “Automobiles,” “Uncle Buck,” and “The Great Outdoors.”

Rosemary Margaret Hobor was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on August 30, 1949. She is a Canadian citizen by birth and later became an American Citizen by naturalization. Although Hobor grew up in Toronto with her parents, their identities are unknown. Like many celebrity spouses, Hobor has kept most details about her early life out of the media.

However, we can confirm that Rosemary Margaret Hobor had a happy childhood with her parents. She has not revealed if she has any siblings. As a result, it is unknown if she grew up alongside her siblings.

Hobor attended a girls-only Roman Catholic High School, Ontario’s Notre Dame High School. After graduating high school, she enrolled at the Ontario College of Art and Design University. She sharpened her skills and graduated from College with a Bachelor of Science in Material Arts degree. Afterward, she attended the Brentwood Fine Art & Design School in Santa Monica, California.

Hobor grew up with a passion for the arts, which influenced her course of study in college. Following her graduation, she ventured into arts full-time. She started with ceramics design, crafting, and painting in a self-employed capacity.

She also taught as a visiting artist in Toronto in the 1970s. Rosemary Margaret Hobor has an art studio in Santa Monica, California, and is famous for her unique artwork.

Hobor and John Candy Met in High School

Rosemary Margaret Hobor met her late husband while both were high school students. While Hobor attended Notre Dame High School, her husband was a Neil McNeil Catholic High School student. However, the pair didn’t become an item until after high school.

According to several reports, Rosemary Margaret Hobor and John Candy started dating in 1969. The pair became inseparable after going on a blind date set up by their friends. Their love blossomed rapidly, and everyone around them knew they would eventually become a couple.

They Tied the Knot in 1979

Rosemary Margaret Hobor and her celebrity husband had their wedding on April 28, 1979. The pair had an intimate-style wedding ceremony at St. Basil’s Church in Toronto, Canada. After their marriage, the couple continued to reside in Toronto, where they built a happy home together. 

Even though most celebrity marriages are scandalous, Hobor and Candy’s union was perfect. The pair never recorded any feud or controversy that would make them appear in the media. Their ideal marriage lasted fourteen years until Candy’s death on March 4, 1994.

Rosemary Margaret Hobor Lost Her Husband to a Heart Attack

Hobor’s husband died while filming “Wagons East” in Durango, Mexico. Following his death, an autopsy revealed that he had a heart attack. According to several reports, Candy had a history of binge eating to relieve stress and weighed 300 lbs at some point. 

In addition to his history of reckless nutrition was a genetic history of heart attack that saw Candy’s father to his early grave. However, Hobor’s husband was unaware of his genetic history. He was only a kid when his father succumbed to the same disease. Unfortunately, he was a few months away from his birthday when he passed away in Mexico.

Although he died in Mexico, Hobor relocated her husband’s remains to the United States. Where he is buried at Holy Cross Cemetary, Culver City, California. 

Rosemary Margaret Hobor Is a Mother of Two

Hobor’s fourteen years of marriage with the late actor resulted in the birth of two children. They welcomed their first child and daughter, Jennifer Anne Sullivan, on February 3, 1980. Four years after the birth of their first child, the pair welcomed their second child and son, Christopher Michael Candy, on September 23, 1984. 

Rosemary Margaret Hobor and John Candy’s children followed their father’s footsteps. Her children are both pursuing an entertainment career. Hobor’s daughter, Jennifer, is a film producer and actress who has appeared in several movies. While her son, Chris, is an actor and has appeared in movies alongside his sister.

Is Rosemary Margaret Hobor Still Alive?

Yes, she is alive and well. A few years after losing her husband, she moved to the United States with her children. Rosemary Margaret Hobor reportedly lives in Los Angeles, California, where she owns an art studio, Rose Candy Studio, in Santa Monica.

Hobor also has a granddaughter, Finley Candy Sullivan, through her daughter, who is now married to Bryan Sullivan. Aside from spending time with her children and granddaughter, she spends most of her time doing charity work. She has teamed up with organizations such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aid Foundation.

Rosemary Margaret Hobor never remarried after her husband’s untimely death, and it is unlikely that she will.
