During the congressional hearings, a fellow party member reprimanded Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. The representative had made some inappropriate comments about Dr. Anthony Fauci during the hearings. The Congress invited Dr. Fauci for a hearing regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Fauci is the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). On Monday, June 3, 2024, Fauci was under questioning by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on how COVID-19 came into the country, and how the agency had responded to it. Greene, who has always been outspoken in her criticism of Fauci, took the opportunity to bombard the former director with questions.
During her time questioning Fauci, Greene refused to address him as a doctor, claiming that he wasn’t one. Her action had annoyed some of her Democratic colleagues, who kept asking her to address Fauci with his proper title. Consequently, they interrupted her on numerous occasions as they issued objections to her hearing.
The remarks did not only provoke her democratic counterparts but also members of her party. Representative Brad Wenstrup, who was the committee chairman and a Republican, had shut Green down because of the incessant bickering.

During Greene’s questioning, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin interfered, directing a question to the committee chairman. Raskin asked whether a representative could choose not to call a person by their proper title because of one’s opinion. A question Greene had responded to, saying yes.
Raskin further pointed out that, in the course of her questioning, she had claimed that Fauci did not deserve a license. Additionally, she claimed that Fauci should have his license revoked and sent to prison. It was at this point that Wenstrup interrupted her, requesting she address him by his proper title. Both Republicans have been reached for comment.
A Democrat representative from California, Robert Garcia, also spoke during the hearing, asking that the doctor be addressed as a doctor. Taking to X, Garcia criticized Greene, referring to her as an embarrassment.

In his post, Garcia wrote that it was ridiculous that Greene would not address Dr. Fauci by his proper title. He went on to commend Fauci, describing him as one of the most brilliant medical minds in the country.
Defending her actions, Greene posted to X on Monday, June 3, 2024, a video where she fired at her Democratic colleagues. They tired her out with their actions and antics, making it difficult for her to constantly deal with them. She claimed that the reason for their antics was that they do not have anything to offer.
Additionally, she asserted that they were responsible for the lockdowns, forced vaccinations, and all the horrors that this country lived through during COVID-19. She added that Fauci was a mass murderer and should be sent to prison.
Critics argued about the federal government’s handling of the pandemic amidst questions about school closures and mask mandates. The origins of the virus were another reason for calling the hearing.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that since 2020, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of almost 1.2 million Americans. When the pandemic broke out in the United States in March 2020, Fauci was the federal government’s principal scientific representative.
Alongside then-President Donald Trump, he took part in daily hearings and continued in that capacity after President Joe Biden assumed office. Fauci had consented to the hearing voluntarily.
