According to Gavin Creel’s publicist, Matt Polk, the popular actor has passed away following a “rare and aggressive” cancer. Creel, known for his Broadway performance as Cornelius Hackl on “Hello Dolly!” was 48 at the time of his passing. On September 30, 2024, Polk revealed that Gavin Creel had died at his Manhattan home in New York.
According to Polk, Creel died following his severe battle with metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma. Polk stated that the famed actor had been battling the disease since July 2024. Creel is survived by his parents, Nancy Clemens and James Williams; his sisters, Heather Elise and Allyson Jo; and his partner, Alex Temple Ward.

Before expressing his grief and sympathy, Mider started his tribute by describing Creel as a radiant, fantastic actor. Creel had starred alongside Milder in the Broadway show “Hello Dolly!”

Subsequently, Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator of “Hamilton,” took to his Instagram page to share his condolences. Miranda wrote, “Gavin Creel was our first king when all we had was 11 songs, and he wrapped the audience around his finger with nothing but a Burger King crown and his mind-blowing charisma and talent.”
Miranda added, “My heart goes out to all the friends, family, and collaborators lucky enough to be in his orbit.” Idina Menzel and Josh Gad, who both starred in “Frozen,” also took to their respective social media accounts.
In a 2002 revival of “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” Creel played Jimmy Smith. This was his first significant Broadway performance, earning him a Tony Award nomination.
