On Sunday, March 24, 2024, President Joe Biden trolled Donald Trump after the Republican bragged about self-proclaimed golfing prowess. Trump claimed he won not one but two “club championship” trophies at his own Florida golf club.
“Congratulations, Donald. Quite the accomplishment,” Biden tweeted, trolling his Republican rival. Sarcasm is hard to type, but it surely suffused Biden’s words. The sharp jab at the golf-obsessed former President quickly went viral after Biden posted it on his personal X account.
By Monday morning, it had garnered more than 13 million views and counting. Biden’s tweet is part of his strategy of taunting and ridiculing Trump for his legal and financial problems. The Democrat’s social media team has been quick this election cycle to zing Trump as they prepare for a rematch of the 2020 election.
Trump made his typically capitals-splattered boast about a supposed great golfing victory on Truth Social, the platform he started when Twitter banned him for inciting the January 6 attack on Congress. “It is my great honor,” the former President wrote.

“To be at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach tonight, AWARDS NIGHT, to receive THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY & THE SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY.” Trump continued, “I WON BOTH!”
“A large and golfing talented membership, a GREAT and difficult course, made the play very exciting,” he said. “The qualifying and match play was amazing … Very exciting, thank you!!!” After the post, Biden’s tweet followed, and other social media users roasted Trump for his boast.
Also, Tim O’Brien, a senior executive at Bloomberg Opinion, replied to Biden’s clap-back. He wrote, “He’s too nice to note that Trump is a notorious cheater at golf.” Others on X also took a swipe at the former President, referencing Rick Reilly, a former Sports Illustrated columnist.
POLL — Should Donald J. Trump Be Allowed to Run for Office?
Notably, Rick Reilly’s 2019 book, “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump,” describes how Trump “cheats like a mafia accountant.” One user tweeted a video of Reilly in an interview recounting how Trump “tried to cheat” the legendary Tiger Woods.
“Tiger freaking Woods,” said Reilly. Furthermore, Reilly described how Trump “chokes one,” sending his ball into the water with a swing. The former columnist claimed Trump then “says to his partner, throw me another one, they didn’t see.”
Reilly also recounted how Trump would “tell people he won club championships that he didn’t even play in.” He also claimed that Trump would announce that he “won at least six or seven tournaments where he was the only guy playing in the tournament.”

Therefore, after Trump’s Sunday post, Reilly said, “Call us if you ever win one on a course you DON’T own and operate.” According to reports, this isn’t Trump’s first dubious claim to honors and titles in his courses. According to a 2017 report, Trump’s West Palm Beach club, which opened in 2000, lists him as its 1999 champion.
Away from the fairways, Trump secured the Republican nomination to face Joe Biden again this year. Despite facing 88 criminal charges and multimillion-dollar civil penalties, attempts to remove him from the ballot failed. Hence, Trump’s alleged golfing victories may have been a high note in an otherwise stressful period.
He has until Monday, April 1, 2024, to post an appeal bond to secure a civil business fraud judgment against him for more than $450 million. New York Attorney General Letitia James may seize his assets to satisfy the damage award if he fails.
