The New York City Firefighters Union is being criticized because some members reportedly booed Letitia James, the Attorney General of New York State, at a recent event. This incident has caused a lot of anger, and the union has started an investigation to determine what happened.

This all happened at a promotion ceremony for Pamela Holmes, the New York City Fire Department’s new chaplain. Attorney General Letitia James was speaking to the group, which included firefighters when things took a different turn.

When she got up to talk, some people, possibly even firefighters, started booing and chanting “Trump.” The video, which was shared online, has received considerable attention and criticism.

Recently, Letitia James and her team took the lead in investigating former President Donald Trump and his associates. They are looking into allegations that Trump may have exaggerated his net worth and the value of his assets over several years to gain business loans.

In the civil fraud lawsuit arising from that investigation, those involved were found liable for some fraudulent actions by Judge Arthur Engoron in September. In February, Trump was ordered to pay about $355 million in damages, which, with pre-judgment interest, amounts to about $450 million.

Trump maintained his innocence throughout the trial, as in all the legal battles he is currently facing. He accused prosecutors of trying to damage his chances in the 2024 presidential election. In response, some of his supporters have shown his frustration differently.

According to reports obtained by Viral News NYC, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA), a firefighter union in the city, criticized these actions. The union considered them inappropriate given the occasion.

One message read, “Beginning today, deputy chiefs will visit each company in attendance to discuss the events and offer members the opportunity to come forward. “Additionally, they may make members aware that the Department has video footage of the event.”

Also, Viral News NYC shared a document that was later verified by a report from the New York Post. In the document, the union provided explanations for their actions following the ceremony.

The document stated that the chants and boos were considered “grossly inappropriate.” It also emphasized that “protesting, heckling, or booing anyone at a ceremony is simply unacceptable.”

The union also mentioned that while members are entitled to their political beliefs, such behavior was not appropriate toward Letitia James. This is especially true considering the ceremony was not a political event, and the Attorney General was not delivering a political speech.

The document further stated that such behavior reflected poorly on the union’s members and strained its relationship with James’s office. Additionally, it warned that this behavior may have caused the union to lose its right to use the same venue for ceremonies in the future.

The document stated, “We want members to come forward. “They will come to HQ to be educated on why their behavior is unacceptable.” A spokesperson from the FDNY spoke to Newsweek about the incident. They confirmed that there was an ongoing investigation focused on professionalism, not politics.

“Nobody is hunting anyone down,” the spokesperson said. “We’re looking into those who clearly broke department regulations. It has nothing to do with politics. It’s about professionalism at an official event held in a house of worship.”
