The WNBA has grown in popularity over the past couple of years. This is mostly thanks to new faces with extraordinary talents, like Caitlin Clark, joining and drama from the existing players.
However, many still refuse to take the league seriously despite its growing fame. One of them is former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown.
His latest post on X, formerly Twitter, is proof of this. He shared it this week in response to news that the WNBA is set to lose around $50 million despite gaining more popularity this season.
In his post, Brown criticized the attention the WNBA has been getting, calling it “hilarious.” He also claimed that nobody actually sits down to enjoy their games.

Then he stated that it is not a professional sport but more of “a charity for lesbians.” People have not always been crazy about the WNBA, but his statement triggered many netizens.
The comment section of his controversial post contained mixed reactions. One user, too angry to say anything else, told him to “Shut up.” Another who seemed to have seen the inside of his head confessed that his brain was “tomato soup.”
One netizen also seemed to agree with the statement, claiming that he communicated the right thing but in an “offensive manner.” The user called it a “talent.”

More comments bashing him got even more condescending. One user even went as far as saying he fell “off the deep end” and needed a savior. It was definitely a heated response to Brown’s claim, but it may not be very off point.
Since retiring from the NFL, Brown’s name has become synonymous with controversial and erratic behavior. In 2022, he infamously showed off his family jewels to a woman in a public pool and allegedly defrauded a jewelry store in the same year.
There are also accusations that claim he is not paying a large amount of child support, and that is just naming a few of his misdeeds. Amidst all that, Brown recently filed for bankruptcy, a claim people find hard to believe because his career in the NFL earned him tens of millions of dollars.
His latest comment about the WNBA is controversial, with many perceiving it as rude. However, many agree that the WNBA would do better if it renewed its deal with the NBA.

According to one user, the league’s growing popularity will not reflect until this happens because the main source of revenue for any league is broadcast rights. The user added that this has not changed and will not change until the renewal of the NBA/WNBA deal, and people like Brown will continue to ridicule it in the meantime.
