Naomi Osaka Had Pregnancy Complications
In December 2023, Naomi Osaka’s interview with InStyle was published, revealing further her pregnancy struggles. Osaka said that she suffered from pregnancy complications, like testing positive for Group B streptococci, which can harm newborns, and endured over 12 hours of labor.
She said, “I don’t think people know how hard pregnancy is; no one really talks about it as much,” she told the outlet. “Going into it, you kind of think, ‘Oh, it’s this beautiful journey.’ But it’s kind of rough.” Before going into labor with her first child, Osaka revealed she wrote a will, something she believes unnerved her.
According to the tennis star, there were so many things she was unaware of about pregnancy and labor. On the day her water broke, she was rushed to the hospital, worried about her infection.
Consequently, when she arrived at the hospital, Osaka was immediately placed on an antibiotic IV. However, the doctor had prescribed Pitocin, making her uterus contract and resulting in her getting dilated one centimeter after 12 hours.
