Megan Thee Stallion Set To Launch Emergency Power Program for Houston Seniors After Hurricane Beryl

One of the big names in Houston, popular rapper Megan Thee Stallion, has decided to give back to her city. Following the aftermath of the destruction left behind by Hurricane Beryl, Megan Thee Stallion has proceeded to make donations as the city begins its recovery.

Megan Thee Stallion Announces Emergency Power Program

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, Megan Pete, popularly known as Megan Thee Stallion, made an announcement. Megan announced that her foundation, the Pete and Thomas Foundation, is partnering with Bread of Life Inc. to start a backup power program. According to Megan, the program is aimed at restoring power to the homes of elderly Houston citizens after Hurricane Beryl. 

Hurricane Beryl, a destructive Category 5 Atlantic hurricane, occurred from June 28 to July 11, 2024. Additionally, the Caribbean, Yucatán Peninsula, and US Gulf Coast were affected by the hurricane. In Houston, one of the areas that was affected by the storm suffered extensive damage, which resulted in the deaths of 22 people and two million without power.

In a press release, Megan vowed to help Houston’s elderly amid power outages. Megan said it has been unsettling to see Houston’s senior citizens suffer from a lack of electricity during these destructive storms. Consequently, she would be joining efforts with Bread of Life to address the issue by obtaining generators to help safeguard our elderly population.

The Partners, Bread of Life Inc.

Additionally, Megan emphasized that it was our responsibility to support our elders to ensure they withstand such disasters in the future. The founder of Bread of Life, Rudy Rasmus, discussed the relief plan and how it aims to operate. Rasmus, stated that the plan was to supply generators to elderly care homes affected by the hurricane season.

He aims to expand relief to vulnerable people, acknowledging that recent storms have exposed seniors’ urgent need for help. Additionally, Rasmus said that, as a result of their partnership with the Pete and Thomas Foundation, they will be able to do so. Consequently, when another storm happens and knocks out power, there will be no interruption in power service.

Reaction to the Announcement

After the partnership was announced by the popular Instagram blog, The Shade Room’, people took to its comment section to express their thoughts. Users took to the comment section to thank Megan for always helping Houston in its time of need. 

An Instagram user named 20dollarsupreme wrote that Megan is helping the city more than the city’s mayor. Additionally, another Instagram user wrote that regardless of what one thinks of Megan, we all admit she is a good person. A comment by a user read that Megan’s gesture was so nice and thoughtful. The user added that some elderly citizens had died from heat caused by the power outage.

Another user wrote, “One thing I can say Megan loves her city !” Subsequently. Another Instagram user, “mrs.browntoyou,” wrote that Megan’s action was remarkable before sending her well wishes.

The Pete and Thomas Foundation

The Pete and Thomas Foundation was created in 2022 to cater mostly to women, children, and senior citizens. The foundation was created in honor of her parents and named after them. Additionally, since its creation in 2022, the foundation has directly or indirectly assisted over 14,000 people.

Megan has described the creation of her foundation as one of her most significant endeavors. On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Megan released a statement, where she said “Launching the Pete and Thomas Foundation is easily one of the most significant endeavors that I’ll ever be part of in my career.

My family raised me to help others and give back, so I’m incredibly proud to be in a position to accomplish that goal. I have a responsibility to use my platform to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who may not have access to resources and support services.”

Did Megan Thee Stallion Get Shot?

In December 2020, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Los Angeles County Superior Court. In July 2020, Lanez shot his colleague and artist Megan Thee Stallion, in the foot. Additionally, the incident occurred when the parties were leaving the home of Kylie Jenner who was having a party. 

Subsequently, Lanez was charged and found guilty of all three charges of assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a gun for shooting the victim. The shooting happened after Megan and Lanez, along with a friend of hers and his bodyguard, departed the party. In the car, the artists got into a fight. When she got out of the car, he started firing at her feet. She had surgery while in the hospital.
