It is now public knowledge that fans of “Superman” can expect a 21st-century reboot, and the 2025 “Superman” cast contains many budding talents, including David Corenswet.
The reboot is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025. When news that James Gunn and DC Studios were creating a brand-new “Superman movie,” many expected Henry Cavill to play the titular role once more.
However, Henry Cavill announced that he wouldn’t be playing the role. Several weeks later, his replacement was announced as David Corenswet, who, according to director James Gunn, has a “Superman” face.
Who Will Be the New Superman Actor?
It has been confirmed David Corenswet would take Henry Cavill’s place as the Man of Steel. During a special trailer preview event in December 2024, Gunn revealed why he ultimately chose Corenswet for the role. One of the reasons that stood out was Corenswet’s alleged “Superman face” and undeniable connection to the character.

“The thing I think that connects him so much in some ways to Christopher Reeve is he has a lot of deep training,” he said. “I’ve never worked in my entire life with such a rigorous actor. He challenged me on a daily basis to really get the most out of his character. Get the most out of his story.”
The Superman character originates from a comic book page and made it onto the screen in 1948. At the time, Kirk Alyn brought the character to life in a 15-episode film serial. Three years later, Superman made his feature-film debut. The character was portrayed by George Reeves, who became the first of several actors to wear the cape.
Christopher Reeve took his place in 1978 and starred in several “Superman” sequels as well. Corenswet, the latest in the line of actors who have played the role, is best known for his roles in “The Politician” and “Hollywood.”
Meet the Rest of the 2025 Superman Cast
The new reboot will feature the classic “Superman” characters like Lois Lane and Lux Luthor. However, characters from all over the DC Universe, including Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl, will also make appearances.

Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
Rachel Brosnahan will take on the role of Lois Lane, who the late Margot Kidder originally portrayed in 1978’s “Superman.” In the movie, Lane presents an award-winning reporter for the Metropolis newspaper, the Daily Planet, and becomes Superman — and his alter ego Clark Kent’s — closest confidant and romantic partner.
Brosnahan is best known for her Emmy-winning performance in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” She also played a role in “House of Cards,” among several other projects. Her predecessor, Kidder, reprised her role as Lane in several other Superman sequels and also gained recognition for her performance in 1979’s “The Amityville Horror.”
Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor
Nicholas Hoult will join the 2025 “Superman” cast as Lex Luthor. The role was played by Gene Hackman in the 1978 version. Luthor, one of the famous characters in the “Superman” lore, is a villain who utilizes his evil genius in various attempts to take him down.
Holt broke out into fame with his role in 2002’s “About a Boy,” and he continued to get more famous, even appearing in 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner
Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner, a superhero known as one of the Green Lanterns. According to reports, this will be Gardner’s “Superman” big-screen debut. The character was first played on-screen by Matthew Settle in the 1997 television pilot “Justice League of America.”
Fillion has expressed excitement for the role he gets to play in the upcoming movie. In December 2024, he took to Instagram to reveal how “elated” he was to be included among the 2025 “Superman” cast.
“I am thrilled to have met all the incredibly talented crew and actors who worked so hard to make it,” he wrote. “This theme brings back incredible memories for me and, at the same time, brand new thrilling feelings. Honestly- I get chills.”
Before joining the DC Universe, Fillion was famous for his movie roles in 2005’s “Serenity” and 2006’s “Slither,” as well as the television series “Firefly,” “Castle” and most recently, “The Rookie.”
Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl
Isabela Merced will join the “Superman” cast as Hawkgirl, a superhero linked to various identities in the DC Universe, including Shiera Sanders Hall and Kendra Saunders. Hawkgirl is usually brought to life by Ciara Renée, who portrayed Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl and various reincarnations in installations like “The Flash,” “Arrow” and DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow.”
However, this time, the duty falls to Merced, who is only too eager to serve. Reflecting on her casting, Merced could barely contain her excitement in an April 2024 interview, tagging it a “full circle moment.”
“I was a DC kid growing up. We had the action figures, and most of them were so old and used that the paint had come off … But I really adored Hawkgirl,” she said. “We just had a really fun, enjoyable childhood with those.”
Merced is known for her roles in 2017’s “Transformers: The Last Knight” and 2019’s “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.”

Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher
Eve Teschmacher is the name of Lex Luthor’s assistant in the “Superman” franchise. The character was first brought to life by Valerie Perrine in 1978’s “Superman,” and will next be played by Sara Sampaio.
After the trailer release, Sampaio shared the clip on her Instagram with a cheery caption. “So proud of the whole cast and crew,” It read. “Still can’t believe I get to be a part of this! What is life?” Sampaio has a history as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Her foray into acting began in 2018 when she was featured in “Carga,” and subsequently 2021’s “Shadow” and 2022’s “Wifelike.”
