Nick Clooney is most famous as George Clooney’s father. But while that is a great title, it just so happens that Nick has several accomplishments.
Keep reading to learn more about Nick Clooney and what he had to say about raising George.
Who Is Nick Clooney?
Nick Clooney is an actor and writer known for “The Monuments Men” (2014), “Behind the Screen with Nick Clooney” (1998), and “Rebound: A Basketball Story” (2009). He was born on January 13, 1934, in Maysville, Kentucky, U.S. His father was a house painter, Andrew Joseph Clooney and his wife was Marie Frances.
The couple had five children, including Nick. His siblings, Rosemary Clooney and Betty Clooney are both famous personalities in the entertainment world. They are all of Irish and German descent from their father’s side and Irish descent from their mother’s.
Nick did not have an easy childhood because his father allegedly drank a lot, adversely affecting his marriage to Marie Frances. His parents got divorced in the late 1930s, and Frances moved on, marrying William Stone in 1939. The relationship led to the birth of Nick’s step-sister Gail.
Nick Clooney Career
Before Nick Clooney ever made any move in the entertainment world, he was in the military, serving as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. During his tenure, he performed as a disc jockey in the American Forces Network and even hosted the shows “Melody-Go-Round” and “Music in the Air.”
After he left the army, he moved to California, looking to launch a career in the entertainment industry. At first, he did not have much luck, so he shifted to Ohio. He started hosting his local morning television show in 1968 for WLWC television.
It was called “The Nick Clooney Show” in 1969 and was broadcast on Cincinnati’s WCPO-TV. It gained him some popularity in the early 1970s when it was aired on WKRC-TV.
However, it was not until he presented the ABC TV game show “The Money Maze” that Nick tasted true national fame. The show ended on June 27, 1975, after which Nick became the news director and lead anchor of WKRC-TV. From there, Nick filled even greater roles, earning more accolades and eventually becoming a household name in journalism.

Nick ran into the woman he would marry, Nina Warren while judging a beauty pageant where she participated as a contestant. The two tied the knot in August 1959 and remain happily married and in love. Their union was blessed with two kids, to whom Nick was a better father.

The Clooney patriarch and his wife, Nina Warren, share two kids. The couple’s two children include a daughter named Adelia and a son named George. His daughter Adelia flies mostly under the radar, but his son George has become one of the world’s most famous actors.
George Clooney and Nick Clooney’s Relationship
Fathers and sons sometimes do not get along, but the same cannot be said for George and his father, Nick.
The pair not only share a close resemblance. They also have a close bond that shines through whether they are on or off the set. In the past, Nick Clooney, a proud father by all accounts, sat down for an interview, revealing some things about George when he was younger.
The proud father admitted that George, known for his great character, has always had “a sense of irony and justice.” Nick even shared a story that showcased those qualities.
He said: “When he was tiny — maybe three — we were at his grandparents, and there was a puppy there. He was playing with the puppy, and the puppy snapped at him.”
Nick continued: “That was the first time that had ever happened to him, and he was outraged. And he cried, but he also picked the puppy up and bit it. (Laughs) What a perfect sense of justice.”
Nick shared many other stories and revealed that he rarely fought with his son because they both had a similar sense of humor. The father-son pair remain great pals, and that will probably never change. Another famous actor close to his father, like George, is Jake Gyllenhaal, son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal.
