In 2007, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas revealed that he and his wife Ginni were raising a boy named Mark Martin as a son. It earned him a great reputation, but the story does not have a happy ending.
The pair reportedly took him in at the age of six, and when Thomas spoke of him in 2007, Martin was a 16-year-old boy. Back then, the Supreme Court Justice talked about how rewarding it was to have taken in a child.
He related it to how his own grandfather had taken him and his brother in and raised them, even revealing that they had been about the same age as Martin when he and his wife Ginny took him under their wings.
Now, Mark Martin, 32, has been sentenced to 25 years in a South Carolina prison on drug and gun charges. It starkly contrasts the life one might expect from someone raised by a figure like Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

However, it all made sense after an interesting revelation from Martin. According to what he said during a recent interview, Clarence and Ginni Thomas abandoned him as a freshman in high school.
He claims they went radio silent on him after that, and even though he reached out to them a couple of times, they never responded. According to reports, the Supreme Court Justice and his wife have been estranged from Martin since he was 19.
During the interview, Martin revealed that he enjoyed a life of luxury while he was with the Thomases. Not only did he get to visit over 20 countries, but he also spent summers vacationing with billionaire Republican Harlan Crow.

Perhaps the time they spent together left a great impression on Crow. He later sponsored Martin’s tuition at Randolph-Macon Academy, a military prep school, and Hidden Lake Academy, a residential treatment center.
According to a report from last year, fees for both institutions amount to about $150,000. Thomas took everything Crow offered him without reporting them. Martin suspects that he got to attend Randolph-Macon Academy because Harlan Crow is an alumnus.
Life was great for him, but those opportunities were not enough to keep him from dabbling in drug use and other petty crimes. It is reportedly why the Thomases ended things with him. ‘

The way the Supreme Court Justice treated Martin, giving up on him even though the drug use was minor, contrasts with the way President Joe Biden has remained supportive of his son Hunter despite his drug addiction and a conviction on gun charges. But then, blood has always been thicker than water.
