Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, has died unexpectedly at the age of 31. The music sensation was vacationing in Buenos Aires with girlfriend Kate Cassidy when he fatally fell from the balcony of a third-storey hotel.

According to an official statement released to The Associated Press, Liam Payne “jumped from the balcony of his room,” clearing out any speculations of an accidental fall or foul play.

The unfortunate incident happened while he was on vacation in Buenos Aires, where he went to see his ex-bandmate Niall Horan perform. Forensic specialists also stated that the singer had no “defensive type” injuries and that the injuries on his body were “vital and produced at the same time as each other.”
Reports further indicate that “the intervention of third parties would be ruled out,” as reported by Argentinian outlet La Nación. A preliminary autopsy revealed that Liam Payne died from “multiple traumas” resulting in “internal and external bleeding” as a result of the 40-foot plunge from the hotel’s third level.
Authorities went to the site after getting an emergency call just after 5 p.m. local time on Wednesday, October 6. The call alerted them to the presence of an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
Alberto Crescenti, the chief of Buenos Aires’ emergency medical services, verified that Liam Payne’s death was caused by severe injuries, including a skull fracture.
