Rapper Killer Mike, amidst the Grammy grandeur, was captured being escorted in handcuffs out of the Crpto.com Arena on February 4, 2024. A few hours after bagging three awards in the pre-televised portion of the event.
Chris Gardner — The Hollywood Reporter, shared the video on X (formerly Twitter). The video showed Killer Mike, alias Michael Santiago Render, walking out of the Grammys venue in handcuffs and flanked by law enforcement officers.
According to the LAPD, Killer Mike was arrested for battery following a physical altercation with a female security guard. Sources reveal that Killer Mike and his escorts attacked the security guard for trying to prevent them from passing an entrance. The rapper himself was accused of pushing the security guard down twice, through which she sustained injuries.
This led to the security personnel arresting a citizen, resulting in the 48-year-old rapper getting a misdemeanor charge. The incident happened at about 4 pm; Killer Mike was released at 8:37 pm but is set to appear in court on February 29.

The rapper released a statement regarding the incident on Monday night. “As you can imagine, there was a lot going on and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter,” the statement read.
“We experienced an overzealous security guard but my team and I have the utmost confidence that I will be cleared of all wrongdoing.” He further said, “My team and I fielded a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK. I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK.”

Killer Mike has been in the music industry for over twenty years and has been pretty vocal about police brutality and racism. The two issues have been major themes in some of his songs.
While some may argue that the situation was blown out of proportion, LAPD Chief Michel Moore, at Tuesday’s police commission meetings, stated that the arrest was fair and just. He revealed that the department was obliged to conduct the private person’s arrest under state law.
He also stated that he had personally instructed the law enforcement officers to release Mike immediately, even before the completion of the booking process.
“Regardless of race, if this was Taylor Swift, I assure you that the actions of these officers are absolutely in response to the state law that requires it,” Moore said. He further reiterated, “… every discretion, I believe at this juncture, was exercised. And I stand by my officers’ actions on this.”
Killer Mike won three of the four awards in the rap category. His song “Scientists & Engineers,” featuring Future, Eryn Allen Kane, and Andre 3000, won “Best Rap Performance” and “Best Rap Song” against names like Nicki Minaj, Drake, Doja Cat, 21 Savages, and Kendrick Lamar. His album “Michael” also took home the “Best Rap Album Award,” beating Travis Scott’s “Utopia,” Metro Boomin’s “Heroes & Villains,” and Drake and 21 Savage’s “Her Loss.”
