After a British tabloid accused him of being unfaithful in his first marriage, Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Douglas Emhoff, has addressed the accusations. Emhoff made a statement to CNN, admitting the accusations and addressing them.
According to his very exclusive statement released on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Emhoff said, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we have worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”

Emhoff’s statement comes in the wake of The Daily Mail alleging that his affair with his daughter’s teacher resulted in the end of his first marriage. However, it is important to know that President Joe Biden’s vetting team knew about the affair and its facts.
The team discovered this in 2020 while vetting Harris as a potential vice presidential candidate. According to a source, Douglas Emhoff had informed Harris about the affair long before they were married. Additionally, they stated that he had ended the relationship years before he got into a relationship with Harris.

According to the British tabloid, the affair had resulted in a pregnancy, which the woman decided to abort. The woman, whose identity remains unknown, did not respond to a voicemail asking for comments.
After Emhoff’s statement was released, Brian Fallon, the Harris campaign’s spokesperson, was reached for comment. However, Fallon refused to dispute the fundamental details as reported and refrained from commenting beyond the statement.

After the affair accusation and Emhoff’s statement were released, Douglas Emhoff’s ex-wife, Kerstin Emhoff, released a statement. In the statement, Kerstin said, “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago.”
She continued, “He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me, and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”
From 1992 until 2008, Douglas Emhoff was married to film producer Kerstin Mackin. He expressed his regrets about the circumstances and knew that there was a probability it might become public.
