Initially halted by assault and harassment charges, Jonathan Majors movie “Magazine Dreams” is finally set for release. After being kept on hold for two years, the movie will now hit the screens on March 21, 2025. Here’s what the movie is about and the circumstances that led to the suspension of its release.
In “Magazine Dreams,” Jonathan Majors stars as an amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox. Due to his desperation for success, Maddox goes to extreme lengths, including endangering his health. Majors seemed to have exhibited similar doggedness in ensuring that the highly-anticipated movie projects get out.
After the movie’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023, many notable distributors scrambled for rights to the movie. At the end of the fierce bidding war that ensued, Searchlight Pictures secured the deal. The company reportedly had to cough out mid-seven figures to outdo its competitors.
However, what initially seemed like a smooth ride soon encountered bumps following Majors’ run-in with the law. The actor’s ex-girlfriend had accused him of harassment and assault, and charges were filed against him in court. The case then led to a temporary suspension of the movie’s release.
However, two years later, and to the Majors’s relief, the film is finally seeing the light of day. The film is directed by Elijah Bynum and stars Jonathan Majors, 35. Jennifer Fox, Dan Gilroy, Simon Horsman, and Jeffrey Soros produced the movie. Jonathan Majors, Andrew Blau, Lemuel Plummer, and Luke Rodgers were some of the executive producers.

Did Jonathan Majors Get Convicted?
In 2023, Jonathan Majors was convicted in a domestic violence case involving his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. He was slapped with misdemeanor assault and harassment—of which the judge found him guilty. Prosecutors said Majors attacked Jabbari in the back of his car in March 2023.
After the assault, prosecutors accused him of returning to his hotel room and calling 911. He reported that he found Jabbari unconscious. However, upon investigation, the cops found multiple reasons to link him to the attack. These included bruises and cuts, plus a broken finger.
The court ruled that he be enrolled in a domestic violence prevention program as well as sentenced to probation. But just before his sentencing, Jabbari filed another case against him. This time, she was accusing him of defamation. She alleged that he assassinated her character after his arrest.
In another situation, Jabbari accused Majors of long-term domestic abuse. She alleged “a pattern of domestic abuse that began in 2021 and extended through 2023.” However, Jabbari and Majors agreed to settle the case. As a result, the case was dismissed.
Jabbari’s attorney threw some light on the resolution in a statement he released to journalists. “We are happy to announce that the meritorious lawsuit Grace Jabbari filed against Jonathan Majors was successfully settled,” the statement read.
“It took tremendous courage for Grace to pursue this case. We are happy to have helped her close this chapter favorably so that she can move forward and begin to heal,” the statement added.
What Is Jonathan Majors’ New Movie About?
Jonathan Majors’ new movie follows the life of a budding but ambitious bodybuilder. Fuelled by a determination to reach the top of his career and be crowned Mr. Olympia, he (Killian Maddox, played by Majors) abuses steroids. He defied the doctor’s warnings and instructions afterward.
The movie aims to beam a searchlight on the body-building industry. It intends to expose the huge risks bodybuilders go through to attain success. Most of the time, the cost of these achievements is their health.
However, it is important to note that these desperate bodybuilders may not entirely be motivated by a passion for success. In the movie, Maddox has to care for his sick father, who is a veteran.

After this, the trailer showed multiple scenes of an aspiring bodybuilder working hard to fulfill his dream. It showed that Maddox has to shuffle between a part-time grocery job, court-ordered therapy, and caring for his sick father.
Maddox is also plagued by a bad temper and a body that seems to be taking a toll from his rigorous training exercises. “If you’re not 100 percent, you will never be successful,” said another voiceover.
“You’ve got to commit all energy and focus to being the greatest bodybuilder on the entire planet. That’s what separates one from being a champion, one from not being a champion.” Will Maddox achieve his dream, or will he become a victim of his actions?
