Award season comes with much media buzz, which the hosts can amplify. Popular host Jimmy Kimmel has faced much backlash in his career. At the recently concluded Oscars, Kimmel did what he does best: stir up controversy on the main stage.

This time, he commented about former president Donald Trump’s performance review. Kimmel went against the producers’ advice after they told him not to read the review. Unsurprisingly, he went ahead and read it on the Oscars stage.

In a Truth Social post, Trump bashed Kimmel’s performance as a host on shows. He questioned whether there had ever been a “WORSE HOST” in the award ceremony’s history. He also called the show a “really bad politically correct show.”

In a post-show interview with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Kimmel said that he read the post against the advice of those backstage. “I was told we have an extra minute, and I’m really proud of something, so I was wondering if I could share it with you. I just got a review, and um…,” Kimmel started. Then he read an excerpt of Trump’s comments from a phone.

After this, Kimmel struck back at the former president, using his many criminal charges against him. “Thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching; I’m surprised you’re still [awake] — isn’t it past your jail time?” Kimmel said to laughter from the audience.

According to Kimmel’s comments in a post-show interview, he was not supposed to kill time with the review. “They’re like, ‘You got a little bit of time.’ I was like, ‘I’m reading the Trump tweet,'” Kimmel said, referring to Trump’s post.

“‘They were like, ‘No, no, don’t read that,'” he continued. ‘Yes, I am!'” Kimmel is not out of character for going against the producers’ wishes.

POLL — Should Donald J. Trump Be Allowed to Run for Office?

Over the years, he has worn blackface, joked about Hollywood’s sexualization of a teenage Megan Fox, and sparked boycotts among the Chinese and Chinese American communities over comments made on his show. It’s a wonder his career has survived, let alone thrived.

In recent times, he has made not-so-funny jabs at big names such as Taylor Swift and Margo Robbie. Therefore, people know to expect the unexpected from the TV Host. More often than not, he is always in the news, making headlines for negative things after hosting important shows.

People have called him out on social media several times because his jokes are majorly offensive. Even the audience at his shows does not always enjoy his humor. At the Oscars, he made a joke about the movie Poor Things and Emma Stone’s nude scenes.

Her reaction shows her saying, “He’s a pr*ck,” went viral shortly after. In addition, anime fans are bashing Kimmel for another joke at the Oscars, where he said that anime and animation movies are only for children.

Nowadays, there is little to no positive buzz about the host. If social media is any indication, many people do not want him on their screens for major award shows.
