Efron is well aware of this and has always embraced the community. The actor once said he found out about his gay audience after starring in Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” in 2006.
He said: “I think the gay audience related to my character Troy because it was a story of embracing who you are, no matter how different you might be, and not being afraid to show it. That’s a universal theme for everyone, but it specifically resonated with the gay community, and I felt very proud of that.”
Efron grew up in California with a love for musical theater. During those formative years, he realized that “being gay was just another way to be. I never really had time to think about it or have any preconceived notions. I don’t judge anyone, and I never have.”
Efron’s first stage production was a musical titled “Gypsy.” He learned a lot from his time in theaters because he had great role models, many of whom were gay. But is that enough to brand him one as well?

No. Zac Efron is not gay, and he has proven this several times already because his romantic dalliance has mainly involved women and not men.
One of his earliest relationships was with High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens. It lasted from 2007 to 2010 before they went their separate ways.
The actor has also been linked to his “Baywatch” and “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile” co-stars, Alexandra Daddario and Lily Collins, respectively, and has reportedly dated Danish swimmer Sarah Bro.
He also dated his “Neighbors” co-star Halston Sage in 2014. The pair were pictured in April of that year sitting courtside at a basketball game, which sparked rumors of a fling.
She was in a relationship with Chord Overstreet at the time. However, after the pictures went live online, they announced their split. Efron and Sage both refused to confirm the alleged relationship. Shortly after the Sage rumors, he started dating model Sami Miró.
On September 5, 2015, Efron wished her a happy first anniversary and declared his love for her on social media. The two dated openly, but details of their relationship were kept under wraps. Things That Make People Suspect Zac Efron Is Gay
Aside from the character he portrayed in “High School Musical,” a few other reasons make fans suspect Efron’s sexual orientation. For starters, he does not mind people wondering if he is a member of the gay society.
He once said: “I don’t like to live in fear about things like rumors and backlash, to begin with — that’s the way I was raised — but I just can’t see what’s so wrong about being gay.”
As if that was not enough to get people suspicious, the actor also advocates for gay rights, primarily same-sex marriages.
He said in a past interview: “It’s an issue that affects so many people in my life — a lot of my close friends and some of the most influential people around me. I just want them all to be happy. It would make me so happy to see them able to live their lives and do what they want to do.”
