Steve Irwin took wildlife to the next level in the early ’90s through the early 2000s. Steve was an icon in his field, and he expertly helped save wildlife. However, his life was cut short during one of his wildlife expenditures.

Steve made a name for himself by daring to go into wildlife, interact with animals and make sure their safety was guaranteed. The late conservationist worked in both land and water. Steve was married to Terri Irwin, and she also carries on his legacy.
Inside Steve’s Life
The star was born to Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park founders Bob and Lyn Irwin in 1962. At a young age, Steve developed a keen interest in wildlife, and at the age of six, he caught his first venomous brown snake.
By the time he was nine years old, Steve was already wrestling and handling crocodiles like his father taught him. In his twenties, Steve took over the park, renaming it Australia Zoo. He started “The Crocodile Hunter” series a little later.
Animal Planet picked the show, and it gained popularity spanning over 200 countries. Steve became a fan favorite for how he handled the animals ranging from deadly snakes, giant lizards, and wild spiders.
Steve and Terri’s Love Story
A few days after Steve took over Australia Zoo, he met Terri, an American-born conservationist and author who visited Australia on a wildlife rehabilitation tour. It was love at first sight, but with a tweak.
Terri once mentioned that all her thoughts after seeing him were that he was with someone. This was because Steve was in his late twenties. Terri recalled asking him if he had a girlfriend, and he replied in the affirmative.
However, Steve was only pulling her legs, as he was referring to his dog, Suey. He and Terri’s love quickly blossomed, and in 1993, they got married. They welcomed two children, Robert and Bindi Irwin.
Steve’s Life Was Cut Short
In 2006, Steve was hungry for more adventures, so he decided to take his research team to the open sea, where there was a broader range of animal species.
On one of his research days, the wildlife expert got into the sea with his cameraman, and while filming, he got pierced through the chest by a stingray. Steve bled a lot and eventually lost his life.
His Family Keeps His Legacy Alive
It has been fifteen years since the damned crocodile hunter passed away, but a day does not go by without his family reminding the world of his greatness and his legacy.
As of 2018, the Irwin family launched a conservationist show on Animal Planet. The focus was on the progression of the Australia Zoo. Bindi shared at the time that working with animals as part of her family as they all strive to carry on in Steve’s footsteps.
When Bindi married the love of her life, Chandler Powell, she and her family honored Steve at the wedding. After she gave birth to her daughter, she dedicated the baby’s middle name Warrior, to her great dad.
