On Monday, March 11, 2024, ICE announced that it captured several illegal migrants with a violent criminal. With the migrant surge coming into the US, several states have attributed the rise in crimes to migrants. Hence, ICE nabbed those with violent criminal records and put them in custody.

According to reports, one of the arrested migrants is a man who has been arrested twelve times in eight years. The Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) San Francisco said 39-year-old Tousif Mohiuddin was in the US illegally. The agency reported that the man, who came from India, overstayed his visa in 2010.

Furthermore, ERO San Francisco said Mohiuddin entered the United States at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Detroit, Michigan. He reportedly entered on March 9, 2010, but failed to depart under the terms of his visa. Afterward, on August 19, 2013, the Fremont Police Department arrested Mohiuddin for assault.

According to the arrest documents, the police department arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. After his first arrest in 2013, Mohiuddin has had several run-ins with the law. ERO states he has faced arrests 12 times in California between 2013 and 2021 for a handful of violent crimes.

These crimes include battery with serious bodily injury, stalking, hit-and-run, robbery, and intent to terrorize. Following Mohiuddin’s recent arrest, ERO’s Field Office Director Moises Becerra said the agency is working to protect the communities.

“This arrest demonstrates how seriously we take our commitment to safeguarding our communities from individuals like Mohiuddin,” said Becerra. “Our officers will continue to work night and day to ensure protection from those who intend to do harm.”

Also, ICE said Mohiuddin will remain in ERO custody pending removal proceedings. The illegal migrant’s latest arrest comes after ERO Boston announced on Monday, March 11, 2024, two more illegal migrant arrests. One arrest included a Honduran national who is on the wanted list for murder in Honduras after fleeing.

Also, the other included a migrant with local assault charges. ERO Boston apprehended the 23-year-old Honduran national on February 27, 2024, in Providence, Rhode Island. According to a statement from ICE, the Honduran national was an unlawfully present fugitive.

In addition, ICE said police found him guilty of felony assault with a weapon and domestic violence. However, they released him from court despite an active immigration detainer for his custody. “It is alarming that, despite this fugitive’s serious charges,” ERO Boston said.

“And the existence of an active immigration detainer filed for his custody, the court released him back into the community.” “This case only highlights the importance of why ERO Boston seeks to cooperate with local communities to protect public safety in our region,” said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons.

ERO Boston stated that the Honduran national first attempted to enter the United States unlawfully in January 2021. However, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Title 42 emergency health order expelled him. Later that year, he unlawfully entered the United States at an unknown location.

Hence, he entered without admission, inspection, or parole by a U.S. immigration official. Similarly, the US Border Patrol arrested a Colombian noncitizen in August 2022 near San Luis, Arizona. They gave him a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge and released him.

Afterward, police in Massachusetts apprehended him in September 2022. They charged him with indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. He pleaded guilty in December 2022, and the court sentenced him to probation for one year. According to ICE, the migrants will remain in custody pending removal proceedings.
