Hoda Kotb is considering a wedding in the future. On the December 11 episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, Kotb and co-host Jenna Bush Hager examined the “micro-wedding” trend. Kotb dreamed of walking down the aisle again over three years after splitting from her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman.
Kotb was married to Burzis Kanga from 2005 till 2008. She then spent eight years in a relationship with financier Joel Schiffman, three of which they were engaged. Kotb noted that micro-weddings are gaining popularity because people don’t want to spend a lot of money on the party and the subsequent bills.
However, she pointed out that the challenge with micro-weddings is that they are nearly impossible with large families. Kotb revealed that her nuptials with Kanga were celebrated with a destination wedding that was neither small nor huge.

What Happened Between Hoda Kotb And Joel Schiffman?
Hoda Kotb and Joel Schiffman faced numerous hurdles in getting their wedding plans off the ground before revealing the end of their relationship. The former couple have been together since 2013. After becoming engaged in November 2019, they were forced to postpone their wedding several times owing to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
She had planned a beach wedding when Schiffman proposed, but she expressed concern about another destination wedding before their breakup. She subsequently moved her focus to a smaller celebration closer to New York City in order to accommodate pandemic constraints and changing customs.
Kotb announced the split on a Monday’s episode of TODAY with Hoda & Jenna in January 2022. She shared that she and Joel had many prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays and decided they were better as friends and parents than as an engaged couple.
Kotb expressed that they decided to start the new year on a new path as loving parents to their delightful children and as friends.

She emphasized that nothing specific happened to cause the split and reflected on the idea that some relationships are meant to be there “for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.” She felt that theirs was meant to be there for a season.
Elaborating on what went wrong after eight years together and three years engaged, Kotb explained that when people grow at different paces, it becomes challenging to stay in sync. She acknowledged that many people might be in similar situations and expressed her understanding of this dynamic.
Does Hoda Kotb Have Children?
Hoda Kotb has two daughters with her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman. In 2017, the co-anchor of the Today Show announced the adoption of her first child, a baby girl called Haley Joy. Notably, Kotb was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, which prevented her from conceiving.
The TV personality’s family expanded again in 2019 when she adopted her second kid, Hope Catherine. In August 2024, Kotb discussed the possibility of having more children during an appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show.
She mentioned that she has not closed the door on the idea, explaining that she continues to receive signs. Kotb noted that she has kept all of their baby stuff because she believes that life’s experiences continually remind her of the boundless capacity of the heart to expand.
Kotb’s priorities have changed indefinitely from job to family. In September 2024, she announced her departure as co-anchor of the Today show. However, she wants to continue on staff in a reduced role. She expressed in a letter to her NBC colleagues that her daughters and her mom need more of her time.

She also held her own SiriusXM radio show twice weekly for five years, from 2015 to 2022. While she may be leaving TODAY, she has other lucrative projects to keep her busy.
