The AMAs 2025 red carpet was full of many appearances, but Heidi Montag’s wig stole the spotlight. She debuted a bold new look at the event, which immediately caused strong reactions on social media.
Montag, 38, attended the American Music Awards on Monday night, May 26, 2025, with her husband, Spencer Pratt, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. She arrived on the red carpet wearing a sparkly blue corset and matching pants designed by THE BLONDS. Her short blonde bob wig, however, sparked strong online backlash. She was dragged by fans on social media for wearing the “world’s worst” wig at the AMAs 2025 red carpet.
Heidi Montag (Heidi Blair Pratt) is an American reality TV star who starred in the MTV series “The Hills.” She is also an actress, model, and singer. She has appeared in several movies, including Just Go with It (2011) and Black Easter (2021).

Why Was Heidi Montag’s Wig Criticized at the 2025 AMAs?
Despite all the criticisms about Heidi Montag’s blond bob wig at the AMAs 2025, the former MTV star is unfazed. While on the red carpet, she opened up to Entertainment Tonight about why she decided to experiment with her hair.
In the interview, she described the new look as an exciting change. “We just thought, ‘Switch it up a little bit,’ and keep it fresh,” she said on the red carpet. “I’ve never done this, so it’s very exciting, and just a moment.”
Montag also clarified that the switch was only temporary, promising that her usual long hair would return “like magic” the very next day.

Has Heidi Montag Responded to the Wig Backlash From the AMAs?
There has been no response from Montag regarding the backlash. But after the AMAs that night, the singer took to social media to express her excitement. She posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Had so much fun at the @AMAs tonight. Feeling glamourous in this look by @theblondsny.”
Her husband, Spencer Pratt, however, spoke out in defense of his wife.
In a TikTok post the next day, Pratt replied to the hate comments about Heidi Montag’s blond bob wig at the 2025 AMAs, telling fans how they can help the singer “afford better wigs in the future.”
“If you love her buy Heidiwood album so she can afford better wigs in the future, fancy wigs cost like 20k ask Beyoncé.”
Pratt, 41, at the same time promoted Montag’s upcoming album, Heidiwood, which is available to pre-save and pre-order ahead of its May 30 release. He also received compliments for how he’s handled the hate comments so far.
“A lot of people loved the wig, a lot of people didn’t love it so much,” he said. “But you know what? We’re very thankful to be at the American Music Awards and having anyone talking about Heidi’s hair.”
Montag and Pratt have been married for 16 years; they have two boys together, Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2. The couple has been open about their finances in the past, especially after losing their Pacific Palisades, California home in the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
