Elon Musk’s ex, Grimes has berated the billionaire for taking their son to the Oval Office. She made her feelings known via a post she made on Musk’s social media platform X. She also complained about the absence of “decorum” in American politics even as Elon Musk carries out sweeping reforms in the federal government.
“He should not be in public like this,” Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, wrote. She made the comments after a social media user drew her attention to her son’s presence at the White House. The Canadian musician has, in the past, registered her displeasure about Musk’s attitude of parading their son in public.
In an unexpected move, Elon Musk brought his son, Lil X along to a White House press conference with President Donald Trump. The Tuesday, February 11, 2025 meeting took place at the Oval Office. The billionaire and X owner was at the office as the president signed yet another executive order cementing Musk’s powers as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
As pictures of the meeting spread through social media, an X user brought Grimes’ attention to it. “Lil X was very polite today!… You raised him well… He was so cute when he told DJT ‘please forgive me, I need to pee,” the user wrote. Grimes responded by blasting Musk while adding “I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”

Musk’s son, unaware of the seriousness around him, became the star of the show. He was almost everywhere throughout the conference. At some point, he was seen picking his nose. He also mimicked his father and, in another instance, whispered to President Trump.
Elon Musk was at the Oval Office to witness the President put pen to paper on an order seeking to strengthen DOGE’s legitimacy. The executive order required federal agencies to collaborate with DOGE’s waste-cutting moves. DOGE had already announced that it successfully blocked billions of dollars in USAID and Department of Education contracts.
Elon Musk’s ex Grimes has maintained her stance about her son’s public appearances. She repeated her views on the issue in January when an X user called her out. After the user criticized her for not resisting Musk’s decision to show off her son to the public, she defended herself.
“I have made it clear I do not approve of that in every conceivable way I know I am. I am desperate to solve it. It is a personal tragedy to me. But currently, I don’t know how to do that,” she wrote back.
This came after Musk took Lil X to a Trump pre-inauguration celebration on January 19, 2025. Elon Musk’s son was jumping and dancing across the stage dressed in a red sweater.
Grimes has also been outspoken about her political ideologies. These include her opposition to Musk’s links to the extreme right and Nazism. She has also advocated for more respect and decorum in public conversations.
“I think so much of what’s been happening over the last decade is simply that the art of diplomacy, oration, and generally competent leadership has been lost,” she stated. “The purpose of politics is to find solutions when the population can’t agree – but both sides have stoked hysteria rather than provide mature competent leadership, ” she also stated.
