The cause of death for Frank Fritz has been released following the sudden news of his death in September 2024 at the age of 60.
On October 1, 2024, Fritz’s former co-host, Mike Wolfe, took to his Instagram to announce his death. Wolfe confirmed the “American Pickers” star passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Captioning his post, Wolfe wrote, “I’ve known Frank for more than half my life, and what you’ve seen on TV has always been what I have seen, a dreamer who was just as sensitive as he was funny.”
Wolfe continued, “The same off-camera as he was on, Frank had a way of reaching the hearts of so many by just being himself. Who would have ever dreamed we would share the cockpit of a white cargo van in front of millions of people interested in our adventures.” Here’s all we know about the actor’s cause of death.
What Was Frank Fitz’s Cause of Death?
According to TMZ, Frank Fritz died from a stroke caused by cerebral vascular disease, aortic stenosis, and COPD. A death certificate obtained by the outlet claims Fritz suffered a fatal stroke that was caused by cerebral vascular disease.
Cerebral vascular disease is a type of disease that impairs blood flow in the brain. It was further revealed that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and aortic stenosis were also contributory factors in his death.

Reacting to Fritz’s death, the “American Pickers” show wrote, “We are saddened to share that our friend and beloved member of The HISTORY Channel and American Pickers family, Frank Fritz, has passed away on September 30, 2024.”
Between 2010 and 2021, Wolfe and Fritz traveled about 70,000 miles annually in search of artifacts that caught their attention.
What Happened to Frank Fritz?
In 2010, Frank Fritz appeared on History’s “American Pickers,” collecting rare artifacts across the country and becoming a star in the process. However, his time on the show ended in 2021 after he fell out with his friend and co-star, Wolfe.
When asked in 2021, Fritz stated that Wolfe had refused to check up on him despite his health issues. After suffering a crippling stroke in 2022, Fritz mostly disappeared from the public eye. On Tuesday, October 7, 2024, a joint statement by the History Channel and Cineflix Production stated that the TV star will be deeply missed.
The statement read, “Frank filmed ‘American Pickers’ for over a decade. We will always remember ‘the bearded charmer’ and his never-ending search for vintage motorcycles and bikes. Our thoughts are with Frank’s loved ones during this difficult time.”

Frank Fitz’s Death Comes Two Years After His Stroke
Before his unfortunate death, Fritz had been largely out of the public eye since he had a debilitating stroke in 2022. Fritz suffered from a stroke a year after stepping away from co-hosting the reality show. According to a longtime friend of Fritz’s, Annette Oberlander, after suffering from a stroke, he never fully recovered and had been receiving inpatient care.
It was confirmed that Fritz died at a hospice care center in Davenport, Iowa. Speaking about her deceased friend, Oberlander wrote on Instagram, “He was a fierce friend. He leaves behind an incredible amount of friendships because that’s what was most important to him. A very large amount of friendships. Close friendships.”
She continued, “The same off-camera as he was on, Frank had a way of reaching the hearts of so many by just being himself.” Oberlander also stated that for Fritz’s celebration of life, it would likely be in spring 2024 and a possible motorcycle run.

Frank Fritz is an American actor and reality show host with a career that spans over 12 years. On January 18, 2010, Fritz and co-host Wolfe premiered on History Channel with their series. In July 2022, Fritz suffered a stroke, a year after stepping back from the show due to health problems.

Before his departure from the “American Pickers” in 2020, Fritz was a regular, appearing in 308 out of 392. In the statement released by History Channel and Cineflix Production, “Our thoughts are with Frank’s loved ones during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.”
In addition to co-hosting “American Pickers,” Fritz appeared on episodes of History’s “Pawn Stars.” He also voiced one episode of the 2017 Seth MacFarlane animated comedy “American Dad.”
