Donald Trump mocked fellow former President Jimmy Carter during a campaign speech on his predecessor’s historic 100th birthday. Trump, 78, mentioned the 39th president of the United States while speaking at a manufacturing site in Waunakee, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
After dubbing President Joe Biden the worst president in American history, Trump told the audience, “Jimmy Carter is the happiest man because Jimmy Carter is considered a brilliant president by comparison.”
Trump’s comment about Carter’s legacy came as other Republican leaders set aside partisanship to commemorate the longest-living president’s centennial birthday. This occurred more than 19 months after he entered hospice care in February 2023.
Carter has previously criticized Trump. During a 2018 interview with CBS News, the former president stated that Trump was “very careless with the truth.” He also mentioned this in an interview with The Washington Post that same year.

Was Jimmy Carter A Good President?
Jimmy Carter’s administration was frequently regarded through a multifaceted perspective. While he faced enormous hurdles, such as economic difficulties and the Iran hostage crisis, he also achieved notable results during his time.
One of Carter’s strengths was his dedication to environmental policy. He enacted 14 important environmental laws and was among the first leaders to address climate change. Furthermore, he stressed human rights in foreign policy, which was a big departure at the time.
His contribution to the Camp David Accords, which resulted in an Egyptian-Israeli peace accord, is seen as a great diplomatic accomplishment. Carter also proposed the Ethics in Government Act and founded the Departments of Energy and Education.
His administration was distinguished by high inflation and unemployment, which hampered his popularity. The prolonged Iran hostage crisis had a considerable impact on his re-election campaign.
Many historians argue that his accomplishments were more than commonly known. His post-presidency work, particularly with the Carter Center, has received widespread recognition for its humanitarian endeavors.

How Did Jimmy Carter Lose His Presidency?
Jimmy Carter lost his 1980 reelection effort by ten percentage points, receiving 41% of the popular vote to 51% for his Republican opponent, Ronald Reagan. Shortly after, he learned that the successful agricultural business he had built beforehand in his career had been driven into the ground by a blind trust.
This further rendered him millions in debt, adding to the $1.4 million in debt he had accumulated. This was during his failed reelection campaign, and he had no cash reserves to repay it.
After leaving the White House, Carter returned temporarily to Plains, Georgia, which had a population of only 640 people at the time and was greeted by friends in the pouring rain.
Who Is the Oldest United States President Ever?
On March 22, 2019, Jimmy Carter became the longest-living US president at 94 years and 172 days old, surpassing George H.W. Bush. John F. Kennedy was assassinated at the age of 46, making him the youngest president of all time.
Ronald Reagan, at the end of his term, was the oldest president at 77 years old; when Joe Biden (now 81 years old) leaves office, he will inherit this distinction. James K. Polk had the shortest retirement of any president, dying from cholera only 103 days after leaving office at the age of 53.

Jimmy Carter’s Post-Presidential Life
After leaving office in 1981, Jimmy Carter established the Carter Center in 1982, which promotes human rights and alleviates human suffering.
The Center has played an important role in several global health programs, including efforts to eradicate diseases such as Guinea worm and river blindness. Carter’s work for peace and human rights earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
Carter has also been highly involved with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that provides affordable houses to individuals in need. He and his wife have worked on various building projects around the world.
