Donald Trump will be facing a dangerous rival, Kamala Harris, in a debate organized by his purported enemy, ABC News, in September. If it happens, it will become the second presidential debate this year and maybe the Democratic Party’s only chance to show that their candidate has what it takes.
Trump announced his decision to debate Harris in a press conference. During the conference, he also revealed why he was initially against the debate. Harris will debate Trump as a replacement for Joe Biden, who had to step down due to mental concerns.
Donald Trump Set To Debate Kamala Harris in September
Trump held a press conference on Thursday, August 8, where he announced his plans to debate Harris, the new Democratic presidential nominee, in September. Trump emphasized the importance of having debates in the press conference and revealed the debate dates.
“I think it’s very important to have debates, and we’ve agreed with Fox on a date of September 4. We’ve agreed with NBC. Fairly full agreement subject to them on September 10. And we’ve agreed with ABC on September 25,” he said.
The Trump campaign later clarified on X that the correct dates for the debates would be “Fox News on Sept. 4, ABC on Sept. 10, and NBC on Sept. 25.” Harris, 59, wasted no time in stepping up to the challenge. She also confirmed that she would be present at the debate while speaking to reporters on Thursday.
During her speech, she expressed gladness at Trump’s willingness to debate. She also implied that if anyone was going to be missing on that day, it would not be her. On X, she wrote, “I hear that Donald Trump has finally committed to debating me on September 10. I look forward to it.”

Donald Trump Beef With ABC
In his press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump stated that his campaign has spoken to the heads of the networks. However, some “fairly minor details,” including the audiences and locations, were still being discussed.
The September 10 ABC debate was originally agreed upon between Trump and President Joe Biden in May. But that was before Biden retired from the 2024 presidential race. According to Trump on his Truth Social Platform on Friday, August 2, his ABC News debate was “terminated in that Biden will no longer be a participant.”
The famous business mogul addressed his decision not to participate as a “conflict of interest,” pointing out that he’s “in litigation against ABC Network” and George Stephanopoulos. Trump filed a lawsuit against Stephanopoulos and ABC in March.

He claims that the television personality defamed him during an interview when he used the word “rape” while mentioning him being found liable for sexually abusing and defaming former Elle advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in a civil trial last year.
Before Biden’s withdrawal from the race, he and Trump were supposed to have two debates. The first happened on June 27 and was aired on CNN, but the second was scheduled for September 10 on ABC.
Biden’s disappointing performance in the first debate intensified debates on his viability as a candidate and ultimately led to his withdrawal from the race. He has subsequently endorsed Harris, who is more than ready to continue the fight.
What Is Kamala Harris Approval Rating?
Vice President Kamala Harris reportedly enjoys a slightly higher approval rating among American survey responders to a new national University of Massachusetts Amherst Poll.
Harris’ approval rating reportedly stands at 46-47. She was not surveyed in January’s poll, but her current rating marks an 11-point swing since a June 2023 UMass Poll had her approval pegged at 39-51.
According to Tatishe Nteta, provost professor of political science at UMass Amherst and director of the poll, last summer Harris’ approval numbers looked similar to those of Biden, with a majority of voters saying they disapproved of the job she was doing as vice president.
Now that she is the Democratic nominee for president, her approval ratings have increased by seven percentage points, with significant increases observed across gender, generational, educational, racial, partisan, and ideological groups.

Meet Kamala Harris’ Family
Kamala Harris is a proud family woman with a loving husband named Doug Emhoff and two stepkids, Cole and Ella. Cole and Ella are the products of Emhoff’s former marriage with Kerstin Mackin Emhoff.
The former couple tied the knot in 1992 but went their separate ways amicably after 16 years of marriage. They maintain a cordial relationship even now; Kerstin reportedly even pitched in during Harris’s presidential campaign.
Kamala Harris and Emhoff married in 2014 in a private ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, five months after their engagement. They did not see any reason to draw things out, especially since the kids fell in love with her right at first sight.
