Diandra Luker was born on November 30, 1955. While some reports suggest she was born in the United States of America, others suggest she was born on the island of Majorca, Spain. Consequently, her exact birthplace remains a mystery. 

Although the identity of her parents eludes the media, reports suggest that her father was a Swiss-American diplomat and her mother was an archeologist of French-Anglo descent. Consequently, Luker is of mixed ethnicity, thanks to her parents.

Growing up, Luker wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps. While details about her early educational background remain a mystery, Luker attended boarding schools at a young age due to her father’s job.

However, Luker enrolled at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown, Washington, D.C., after her dad’s death. According to reports, the former celebrity spouse attended the University of California, Los Angeles, to pursue a college education. But this remains unconfirmed.

Michael Douglas’ ex-wife is a movie producer. However, before she became a successful film producer, Diandra Luker was an active member of the Red Cross. Due to her interest in charity work, the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art hired her to produce documentaries for the museum’s Office of Film and Television. 

In addition, Luker also worked as a model for some time after the Forbes Model Agency hired her in the earliest days of her career. After her marriage to Douglas, Luker proceeded to make documentaries for TV. 

In 1991, she produced an episode for the “American Masters” series on the PBS network. Also, Luker made the episode “Frederic Remington: The of Other Dogs.” Due to her incredible talent, Luker’s work in film was greatly admired by many.

Also, Luker co-produced the 1997 documentary movie, “Off The Menu: The Last Days of Chasen’s.” However, Luker made her film debut in 2008 when she co-produced the movie, “Broken Lines.”

How Did Michael Douglas and His First Wife Meet?

Diandra Luker met the “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” actor at the White House when she was 19. Although some reports suggest she was undergoing her internship when they met, others indicate that they met at the oath-taking ceremony of the then-US President, Jimmy Carter. Nonetheless, it was love at first sight for the two. While Luker was a teenager, Douglas, on the other hand, was 32 and was already a superstar.  

Despite the thirteen-year gap between them, Douglas and Luker hit it off immediately. The love birds started dating, and after just two weeks of knowing each other, the renowned actor proposed to Luker. Six weeks later, the couple tried the knot in March 1977. 

The couple had a grand wedding at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in California. One year after they tied the knot, Diane’s Luker and  Douglas welcomed a son, Cameron Douglas, in December 1978. However, they divorced in 2000.

What Happened Between Michael Douglas and Diandra Luker?

Although the couple were together for 22 years, those years were extremely painful to Douglas and his ex-wife. After parting ways, the former couple admitted they were unhappy throughout their marriage. More so, after a decade of tying the knot, the former duo started living separately. Consequently, their relationship hit rock bottom, and they divorced in 2000. 

However, the divorce brought many negative criticisms toward the former Mrs. Douglas. Diandra Luker demanded a whopping $45 million from her ex-spouse as alimony during their divorce proceedings. This demand didn’t sit right with the general public and fans of the actor called Luker greedy.

In addition, Michael Douglas’s throat cancer diagnosis at the time added to the criticisms. However, Luker revealed in an interview that the “Wall Street” actor was in excellent health when she initially asked for the money.
