The surge in the influx of migrants into the U.S. is causing a lot of problems, even among Democrats. Democrats back the migration policies that support high immigration rates, but now they are clashing for many reasons. This time, it is because of a recent move made by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Abbott, who is a Republican, does not support the migration law that Biden’s administration is upholding. Therefore, he sent buses filled with migrants to democratic-led sanctuary cities. This is because Texas is one of the most affected states in the country, and the governor had to do something about it.

In 2023 alone, over 2.4 million encounters were at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), this is a significant increase compared to the 1.7 million immigrants in 2021.

Therefore, this crisis has caused a lot of disruption in many states as they now have to reallocate budgets for immigrants. It is also causing a lot of democratic leaders to clash as some are going back on their pro-immigration stance and are asking others to do the same.

This is because the excess immigration is causing a huge burden on states that their leaders think might be difficult to handle. So, they are asking President Biden to review the policies to help make the situation better.

Sanctuary cities like New York City, Chicago, and Washington are mostly affected by this influx. Their officials had no choice but to take extreme measures to secure houses and resources for migrants.

In addition, their residents are not happy about allocating these resources. To them, this influx is causing officials to focus on them while neglecting their initial residents.

POLL — Should the U.S. Government Create a Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants?

In cities like Chicago, the residents try to take matters into their own hands. Recently, they tried to get a proposal that would enable them to vote against Chicago remaking a sanctuary city. However, their mayor, Brandon Johnson, blocked this proposal before it went high up.

Without his support, it couldn’t move up to the city council, and the residents were livid. Alderman Anthony Beale, who introduced the proposal, argued that this was a huge setback for the community.

He slammed his fellow Democrats for rejecting it and discussed how the funds are being misspent. To him, all the funds that they are spending on migrants should be going to its residents.

Those who have been “paying taxes their entire life, can’t get a furnace, can’t get a roof, can’t get a hot water heater, can’t get a back porch,” thanks to lack of proper funding.

However, this is not the first time residents are speaking up or fighting back. In New York City, the occupants also ask their governor to do better.

On the other hand, republicans never supported the immigration bill. They have been fighting against it for a long time, and judging by Governor Abbott’s actions, their stance is not changing soon.
