After dropping a bombshell on fans about his health status, popular filmmaker David Lynch denied rumors of his retirement. Lynch recently revealed that he has a chronic lung disease, which he claims would have no impact on his filmmaking career.

On August 1, 2024, the British Film Institute magazine released an interview with Lynch. In this interview, the renowned filmmaker stated that he had been diagnosed with emphysema. Notably, David Lynch is known for directing and writing movies such as “Twin Peaks” and “The Elephant Man.”

Speaking to the magazine, Lynch said, “I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long, and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not… And now, because of Covid, it would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold.”

What Is David Lynch’s Highest-Grossing Movie?

David Lynch’s highest-grossing movie is the 1984 movie adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, “Dune.” The film made a total of $27,503,491. However, the movie was a critical and commercial disaster that hindered his Hollywood blockbuster ambitions.

Devoted to Herbert’s novel, readers eagerly anticipated the film, but Lynch had little say over the finished product and later rejected the movie completely. The movie’s budget was recovered, but all ideas for further sequels were shelved.

Although the film’s failure was unexpected, Denis Villeneuve’s highly regarded 2021 revamp was ultimately responsible for the “Dune” franchise’s triumph. The 2021 movie decided to go into greater detail and only presented half of the intricate tale Lynch’s picture had tried to convey.

A sequel was released in 2024, titled “Dune: Part Two,” with confirmation of a third part.
