Best-selling author and seasoned pastor has informed the public that he will be leaving his position in his megachurch. The pastor had claimed he was stepping back from the church as a result of a sin he committed some years ago.

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, Tony Evans gave a public address that was released to his congregation on the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship church website. Evans stated that the ministry was founded on its commitment to the Bible, as the standard to emulate as a member.

However, he said that sometimes we violate that standard because of sin, and when it happens, one has to rebuild their relationship with God. Evans said that some years back, he fell short of the standard. Consequently, he must do to himself as he has done others and apply the same standard of repentance and restoration.

Although the 74-year-old preacher did not disclose what the actual sin was, he stated his actions were not criminal. Evan claimed he made so many decisions without using his righteous judgment. Consequently, he will be leaving his leadership position to church elders while he works on his restoration.

Although the decision was difficult, the elders were required to lead, following the Bible. The elders ensure accountability and integrity when church leaders don’t meet scriptural standards.

In the second statement, it was disclosed that Pastor Bobby Gibson and the elders would provide more information about temporary leadership. Gibson is the lead associate pastor of the fellowship. In his statement, Evans added that he had discussed this development with the elders of his church and family. Evan stated that, upon the discussion, they had lovingly wrapped their arms around him.

Lois, Evans’ 49-year-old spouse, passed away in 2019. In December 2023, the church announced his marriage to the former Carla Crummie, referring to her as “Mrs. Carla Evans.” Evans and Carla got married in November 2023.
