Crown Prince Haakon Breaks Silence on Marius Borg Høiby’s Case

Following Høiby’s arrest, Høiby’s stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon, spoke about his arrest for the first time on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Haakon said, “It is a serious matter when the police are involved in the way they are, but at the same time, it is not right for me to go into the details of the case.”

According to Haakon, who was in Paris for the Summer Olympics, his wife, Mette-Marit, had intended to join him in France. However, Mette-Marit had to stay in Norway following Høiby’s run-in with the law. Haakon did not address the assault victim or make any statement regarding the alleged fire threat.

Is Marius the Son of Mette-Marit?

When Mette-Marit married Haakon in 2001, she was a single mother to a son from her past. On January 13, 1997, Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, was born following her brief encounter with convicted felon Morten Borg.

According to Mette-Marit, Høiby symbolizes the odd choice she and Haakon made when they got married. In 2020, Mette-Marit stated that Høiby would have no public function as he was not a member of the royal family or a public figure.

In early August 2024, Høiby was arrested on assault charges after acknowledging being intoxicated from cocaine consumption.
