The world of Kurtis Fannon took a significant blow on March 8th when he lost his pregnant wife and their first daughter she was carrying. The New York public school teacher Courtney Fannon spent the last moments of her life at her school but collapsed shortly after sending her husband a text.
Like any other day, she gathered her thoughts and materials at Kendall Central School, about to head home. However, just minutes after sending the text to her husband, they found her unresponsive in a school building.
According to the district spokesperson, Steve Dawe, the school was not open to students that day. All Kendal Central teachers were on campus, completing professional development training. Therefore, there were no children around to witness the tragic incident.
Courtney was pregnant with the first daughter with her husband. Mother and child were rushed to a local hospital where the medics tried life-saving measures on her. However, the measures did not work, as both mother and daughter died later that evening.

Mathew Smith, a close friend of the family, set up a GoFundMe account for Kurtis shortly after. “The world lost two beautiful souls, Courtney Fannon and Hadley Jaye Fannon, long before we were ready to live in a world without them. They were called to eternal rest the night of March 8th, after a very tragic and unexpected turn of events,” the GoFundMe post reads.
As of March 13th, the funds raised through the account were $47,623. This will cover any final expenses, including medical bills and funeral service costs, and keep Kurtis afloat for the short term. Regarding Courtney, all Kendall Public schools were not open to students on Monday, March 11th. This includes Kendall Central School, where Courtney worked as a special education teacher since 2018.
Furthermore, the District Superintendent, Nicholas Picardo, shared a heartfelt statement about the late teacher. “Courtney was a special education teacher who served her students with passion and joy each day,” he said.

“When she wasn’t in her classroom sharing her love and gift for teaching with her students, she could be found walking our halls with a smile and a friendly hello.” Picardo also mentioned that they were “saddened to share the news,” adding that they would “communicate the details of support for our larger community in the coming days.”
In addition, on Tuesday, counselors were available on-site to help any student or staff who needed support. “We ask that you please respect the family’s privacy now. We have shared information via ParentSquare for caregivers who might need a resource for helping children handle feelings of grief,” Picardo’s statement concluded.

On Saturday, March 16th, Courtney’s family will hold a funeral mass for her and her late child. According to reporting by The U.S. Sun, this event will be held at Vincent DePaul Church in Churchville, New York.
If anyone wants to make a donation in their honor, the family has asked them to send it to Homestead for Hope, a nonprofit organization in Rochester, New York. Many thoughts and prayers are with the family during these trying times.
