What Was the Cause of Jesús Guerrero’s Death?
In early March, a full medical examination of the body of Kylie Jenner’s hairstylist Jesús Guerrero was conducted. After several tests and study results were processed, his cause and manner of death were officially certified on Monday, June 2.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner publicly confirmed that he died of pneumonia and disseminated cryptococcus neoformans, or a fungal infection, with AIDS listed as the secondary cause of death.
In medical terms, the medical examiner’s office listed the primary cause of death as Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia and disseminated Cryptococcus neoformans due to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). These infections are a very severe kind of pneumonia usually found in people that have weak immune systems, making an AIDS diagnosis likely to be a major contributing factor.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) is a rare, serious lung infection caused by the fungus Pneumocystis jirovecii.” People living with PCP usually have weakened immune systems because of certain health conditions or medications.
Cryptococcosis, on the other hand, according to the CDC, is “a fungal disease caused by breathing in spores from Cryptococcus, a fungus found in the environment. The infection can affect the different parts of the body but usually causes lung or brain infections.” People with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to those infections.
