Carrie Underwood has defended her decision to perform for Donald Trump. The singer drew criticism after it became public that she would be singing at the 2025 Trump inauguration ceremony. The former American Idol winner cited her love for her country and the need to unite as reasons for accepting the invitation.
The 41-year-old multiple award-winning singer released a statement on Monday, January 13, 2025, explaining her decision. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she stated.
On that same day, a spokesperson for the Presidential Inaugural Committee confirmed the news of Underwood’s participation at the event. According to the schedule of events for the inauguration, Underwood will mount the stage after Vice President-Elect J.D Vance has been sworn in.
Shortly after her performance, Donald Trump will take the oath of office to begin his second stint at the Oval. He will become the 47th President of the United States.
Underwood gave more insight into why she took the offer to be part of the event. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.” Truly, America’s political landscape has been plagued by unprecedented division, especially in the past decade.
Also, many supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris are still horrified at the prospect of another Trump presidency. For many people, the 78-year-old billionaire is bad news for democracy and human rights. A case in point is the unforgettable January 6, 2020, invasion of the Capitol by his supporters.

Meet the Trump Inauguration Performers 2025
Underwood is billed to sing at the 2025 Trump inauguration alongside other prestigious performers. These include Village People, the group behind “Y.M.C.A,” which has become a Trump campaign favorite. Other acts include Lee Greenwood of “God Bless the U.S.A.,” the Armed Forces Choir, and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at the U.S. Capitol, where the event will be held. Village People will perform at several inaugural events. They would thrill the crowd with the “Y.M.C.A,” to which the President-Elect will perform what is now known as the “Trump dance.”
As part of the 2025 Trump inauguration, Village People also performed at the inaugural eve ball on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Conservative political group Turning Point USA will host the ball.
Notable attendees will include the Vice President-Elect, J.D. Vance. Trump admin nominees like Vivek Ramaswamy and Tulsi Gabbard would also be on the ground. In addition, leading conservative voices and political activists such as Ben Shapiro and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk will grace the event.
Other music acts who are expected to perform at the inauguration include Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts. Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus will dazzle the audience at the “victory rally.”
Carrie Underwood’s Performance at the 2025 Trump Inauguration Sparks Backlash
As expected, Carrie Underwood’s decision drew much anger from anti-Trump Americans. One Instagram user had some stern words for the country singer in one of her Instagram posts. “So gross that you’re supporting Trump! History won’t forget,” the user wrote.
On X (formerly Twitter), an angry fan called for other music lovers to cancel the singer. “Carrie Underwood is [performing] at Trump’s inauguration, so I’m blocking her on all apps and boycotting all her music,” they commented.
Underwood’s decision to perform at the 2025 Trump inauguration came as quite a shock to many. The musician has kept herself away from politics as much as she could. However, some of her decisions showed that she may have tilted to the left in her political leanings.
One of these is her participation in a 2017 parody song that mocked Trump. The performance, which took place at the County Music Awards, had Underwood team up with Brad Paisley to mock Trump’s social media goofs. While Underwood performed her song “Before He Cheats,” Paisley went after the former President.
“Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, reaching for his cellphone… he’s probably asking Siri, ‘How in the hell do you spell Pocahontas?” he sang. “In the middle of the night from the private seat of a gold-plated White House toilet seat, he writes, ‘Liddle Bob Corker,’ ‘NFL’ and ‘covfefe,’” Underwood and Paisley also sang.
Among Underwood’s disappointed fan base was the LGBTQ community. Some of them gave her a piece of their mind on Instagram. “Don’t ever call yourself an LGBTQ ally again; you’re supporting the man that wants to abolish LGBTQ rights; you should be ashamed,” they wrote.

When Is Trump’s Inauguration Date in 2025?
The Donald Trump Inauguration 2025 is scheduled to be held on Monday, January 20, 2025. The event will hold on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. To the dismay of many of her fans and supporters, Carrie Underwood will perform at the ceremony.
But she isn’t the only performer who has had to deal with angry fans. Village People have also opened up about their reason for participating. In a Facebook post, they admitted that their decision won’t please all their fans.
They reminded their supporters that Kamala Harris was their preferred candidate. Despite that, they believe that “music is to be performed without regard to politics.”
