CBS recently confirmed that it will re-air its coverage of Billy Joel’s 100th straight performance at Madison Square Garden. This was because it was interrupted for certain viewers.
During the broadcast, Joel was in the middle of singing “Piano Man” when local news began to air in different parts of the country. “Due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans,” Joel’s performance, filmed on March 28, will air again in its entirety on Friday, April 19, at 9 p.m. ET, CBS said on Monday. Fans can also watch Joel’s performance on Paramount+.”
“A network programming timing error ended last night’s Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones,” Julie Holland, CBS’s Vice President of Communications, said in a statement.
“We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song.”

With his first new song in 17 years, a recent Grammy Award performance, and his final Madison Square Garden residency event in July, Billy Joel has found himself in an unusually prominent spotlight.
When asked about his reaction to the sudden rise in attention, Joel smiles and confesses, “I’m a little overwhelmed.” I’m not used to the whole megillah that comes with releasing a new record.”
He’s referring to “Turn the Lights Back On,” a tune he released in January. The song became his first Billboard Hot 100 entry since 1997.
In addition to this feat, he is winding off his historic residency at Madison Square Garden. This began in January 2014 and will end on July 25.
