In a story shared on Reddit, the newlywed wife of a billionaire was seen bullying an Instagram user. The conversation exchange, which was over rights to a social media username, evolved into an argument.

On Saturday, April 27, 2023, Katherine Driscoll got married to Cabot Asplundh, the heir to Asplund Tree Expert Co. in Pennsylvania. In 2023, Asplundh Tree Expert Co. made an income of $5.42 billion, making it one of the largest private companies in America. After the wedding, Katherine changed her last name to Asplundh and intended to make it official on her Instagram account.

However, she soon discovered that her new legal name was already in use on another account. To get the rights to the username, Katherine texted the owner of the account. NYCInfluencesnark shared a screenshot of the conversation on subReddit.

According to the conversation, Katherine had texted the user, asking if she could buy the username. She told the user that she was newly married and she wanted to change her username to reflect that. The message had caught the user, whose name was also Katherine Asplundh, by surprise.

The user preferred to be called Kate, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. After she received the message, Kate claimed she had done some research, which made her anxious. She finally responded to the message congratulating Katherine, before informing her that she could sell the username.

Kate cited Instagram guidelines, which prohibit selling a username, and such an account would be banned from the site. However, rather than taking the news in style, Katherine responded that buying a username was a common practice. She added that she had bought Instagram username rights in the past.

Katherine further explained that it was something celebrities do to ensure they have their full names on their handles. Katherine stated that she had no idea there was another family with the name “Asplundh” because she was the only person named Katherine Asplundh in her family.

Kate replied to Katherine that this was her backup account that used private stories and archived posts. She further informed Katherine that her main account uses her maiden. But the rejection didn’t sit right with Katherine, who argued that wasn’t her real name and reported her account. Katherine claimed that her husband, Cabot, had also reported the account.

After being told no the first time, an irritated Driscoll Asplundh argued that Kate’s name wasn’t Katherine Asplundh and that she would be reported. Katherine’s last Instagram post to 14,600 followers was a picture of a wedding dress, which was posted on April 30, 2024.

Katherine had gone on Facebook to check if she was sharing her name with someone else. Consequently, after the search yielded no results, she assumed she was the only one with that name. In another attempt to get Kate to give up the username, she told Kate that her in-laws were the only Asplundh in America.

Kate responded to her informing her that she was not an American before wishing her a good day. Katherine had replied asking her for proof of name which infuriated Kate. According to Kate, she was open to giving Katherine the rights but she didn’t want to sell it.

Kate had informed the public that she had filed two complaints to Instagram about the incident. She said one was for attempting to purchase her account and the other was harassment.

The story has gotten many reactions from Reddit users, most of whom were in defense of Kate. A user had claimed the behavior by Katherine was insane and sounded entitled. Another user had written, “The pivot from hey girly to LET ME SEE YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE gave me whiplash.”

However, some people choose to advise Kate on how to retaliate against her asking to never leave the account. Some advise to never sell the account.

Several additional Instagram identities with some version of “Katherine Asplundh” have surfaced on the Meta-owned app after the submission to the subreddit.
