According to a court report, the mother of a child discovered dead in a Tampa University trash can informed authorities that the child was born in a hostel restroom and passed away shortly after.

New information on the inquiry that began after the baby girl was found in a trash can at McKay Hall, a hostel on university premises, was disclosed in a search permit document issued to the general populace.

The document states that a day before the incident, at approximately 3:30 pm, school guards contacted emergency personnel in reference to a nineteen-year-old lady who might be experiencing a stillbirth. Learners in McKay Hall reported hearing what sounded like a baby cry in a hostel apartment.

According to the document, the lady claimed that the blood she discovered in a shared restroom was from her monthly periods. Therefore, EMS cleared the issue once it was determined to be medical in nature.

The contact alerting dispatchers about the presence of a dead baby in luggage on campus came in just before 7 pm. The day after, residents of the hostel claimed to have seen a fellow resident clutching a bundled-up cloth. Residents reported to the guard a garbage bag they discovered in a hostel’s quarters, which they believed to be strange given what had happened the day before.

In the report, a safety officer opened the bag and discovered the obviously dead baby’s remains. The mother, whose identity the news media in Tampa Bay has chosen to withhold for now as she is not convicted of criminal charges, admitted to officers that she hadn’t had her menstruation in about a year and was unaware that she was pregnant but that she may have been in rejection if it was known.

The document further stated that the lady claimed that she delivered in the restroom between two nearby hostel rooms after feeling uneasy. The infant, according to her, cried out for approximately five seconds before stopping, after which the mother held the infant to her chest and wrapped her in a towel.

The mother informed authorities that she believed the infant was deceased when she placed her hand to the heart and felt nothing. After taking her bath, the mother washed the baby with shower water and covered it with a towel. She claimed the infant exhibited no evidence of living at that point.

According to the statement, the lady claimed to have taken the infant in a towel to her quarters, placed it on the floor, and dozed off for almost 1 hour.

When she got out of bed and noticed the infant wasn’t responding, she put the infant in a garbage can around 11 am and returned to bed. She also denied being pregnant when the paramedics questioned her regarding the pregnancy in her quarters.

The authorities had earlier stated that they were trying to ascertain the infant’s growth process and possible cause of demise. The officer’s representative said the authorities await a report from the medical personnel.

The school administrators sent a memo informing the university community of the emotional responses that may arise as more information unfolds about the incident. As a measure to avoid such a situation from happening, the school management has set a counseling and emergency line for assistance for both learners and school officials
