A Missouri mom sent the Internet into a frenzy after she posted a list of chores she made for her babysitter. Katrina Ivan, an eighth-grade science teacher and small business owner from Kansas, made headlines on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Ivan took to TikTok to show off her way of getting household chores done on a date night.
As Ivan and her husband planned a romantic night out, she knew that chores were piling up. Also, the house was messier than usual. However, the babysitter was on the way, and she figured she could offer her son’s babysitter a few extra bucks.
While penning a note to her three-year-old son’s sitter, Ivan listed a few optional chores, each with a set dollar amount. According to the video, her son was asleep when the babysitter arrived at 7:30 p.m. The babysitter would look after him until 11:30 p.m. and earn $75 for the four work hours.
“I was like, ‘here’s what I need done,'” Ivan said in an interview with FOX News. “And I just assigned money values to each [chore].” She added, “And [the sitter] was all over it.” Ivan’s note, viewed over one million times on TikTok, has sparked controversy.

“You are more than welcome to hang out and watch TV,” the note read. “But if you want to earn extra cash, these are up for grabs.” “Just let me know if you decide to do any of these,” Ivan added. “And the grand total I owe you on top of the babysitting money.”
According to the viral video, the prices varied for each chore. Organizing the kitchen area, cleaning the windows, and mopping the floor would earn the babysitter $10 each. In addition, cleaning out the fridge and vacuuming the couch would earn her $15 and $3, respectively. Consequently, the babysitter could earn up to an extra $60.
However, Ivan’s note shocked some social media users. “Those are 1990 prices,” one social media user pointed out. “$15 for the fridge, that’s wild,” another user commented. “I had this one-time babysitting, but she left a list of chores with prices,” one shared.

“And then they deducted them from the hourly pay when I didn’t finish.” In addition, another user said their teenager would be inclined to do all of them, excluding vacuuming the couch. Conversely, others thought Ivan’s note was a great idea, particularly babysitters.
Several noted in the comments section that they often tidy up around the house for free. “This is a great idea!! Sometimes it’s boring to sit and watch TV,” one social media user wrote. “This makes time go by quicker, and sometimes it’s things I would do to help.”
“I think since it’s optional or not, you can give whatever amounts,” another user noted. “It’s still the babysitter’s choice whether to do it or not.” One chimed in, “I wish they did this when I was a babysitter. Would’ve loved the opportunity to earn extra.”

Following the divide on the Internet, Ivan noted that after her babysitter arrived, she immediately jumped at the offer. According to Ivan, her babysitter is an 18-year-old high school student. Ivan also revealed that she is one of her former students and has been babysitting for her family for years.
Ivan noted that the offer allowed her babysitter to make extra money. However, she stated it was an excellent way to relieve some of the parental stress she experiences. Ivan’s viral video has sparked a conversation about parental stress, with many airing their thoughts.
