While Angelina Jolie didn’t physically grace us with her gracious self at the Oscars, her presence was still felt throughout the night. The award-winning actress did not attend the Academy Awards ceremony, but her artistic genius did! She made a massive debut as a designer by styling writer and Journalist Suleika Jaouad for the red carpet.
This made Suleika the first to wear an original Jolie design on a red carpet. Her outfit was from Atelier Jolie, a fashion line and retail space that the star launched in December 2023.
The “Maleficent” actress explained Atelier Jolie’s mission in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar earlier in December. “We are a collective that aims to show that an ethical and sustainable lifestyle isn’t a lesser life with limitations,” she said. “It is a better quality of life, with personal creativity and community at its center.”
Since its launch, this is the first time one of her original pieces will grace a red carpet. Suleika’s stunning gown had a delicately pleated fabric in a luminous, stormy gray hue. The dress’s detailing was exquisite and eye-catching all at once.

In addition, it had standout details such as fluttery cape sleeves, a high-waisted skirt, and a train covered in a graphite-black illustration drawn by artist Chaz Guest. Without a doubt, Suleika rocked this outfit with poise and grace.
In a red-carpet interview with Canadian entertainment outlet Etalk, she said, “This dress was designed by only Angelina Jolie. Her first time designing a dress for the red carpet, she invited the amazing artist Chaz Guest to paint a symphony on the back.”

Suleika appears in her husband Batiste’s Oscar-nominated documentary American Symphony and points out its relevance to the illustration on her dress. She also shows a figure who stands for her husband in the illustrated scene. “So we have Mr. Batiste right here,” she explains.
It was indeed a “wow” moment when she walked the carpet as the detailing was impeccable. Jolie herself also explained her decision to dress Suleika on the red carpet. “I have such deep admiration for Suleika and how she lives her life — how she meets difficulty with strength and grace,” she said.
“[She’s a] brilliant creative force who inspires everyone who knows her. I would have dressed her for anything she needed. It should never be about the dress, but how anything is worn feels like an extension of the person.”

It is evident that the two respected and adored each other, and the outfit came out great! Many praised Jolie for her creative mind on social media and appreciated her multitalented self. They praised her artistic prowess as an actress, producer, and now fashion designer.
Jolie’s name was also in people’s minds that night as the “Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney recreated her iconic look from the 2004 Oscars red carpet.
