The Oscars Academy Award went down on March 11. As usual, it saw the attendance of the creme de la creme of Hollywood.

Veteran actor Nicolas Cage was also in attendance and brought his wife, Riko Shibata, with him. The pair attended a pre-Oscars party in Los Angeles before heading to the Academy Awards.

On March 9, the couple attended the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s 22nd Annual Night Before at Fox Studio Lot. They both wore black ensembles and held hands most of the time.

The event had six total co-chairs. They include Sterling K Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathé, America Ferrera and Ryan Piers-Williams, and Jodie Foster and Paul Giamatti.

The following day, the couple attended the 2024 Oscars, commanding attention as they walked the red carpet together. Cage wore a classic black tuxedo for the ceremony, while Shibata flaunted her hood look in a black and gray structured gown.

The ceremony is the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s 22nd annual star-studded benefit, and it raised over $4.3m. During the SAG-AFTRA strike, the MPTF donated over $8m in charitable financial assistance to those impacted by the work stoppage.

The funds raised at this benefit will continue to support the MPTF’s programs and services. These include financial assistance, crisis counseling, caregiving support, and the senior residential facility on the Wasserman Campus in Woodland Hills. The campus reportedly houses many former television and film stars.

Cage and his wife enjoyed their time at the event. When they were not absorbed in each other, they chatted with some of their friends, including Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and Colin Farrell.

This is a rare appearance for the private couple. The last time they appeared on a red carpet together was in March 2023, when they attended the premiere of Cage’s film Renfield at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Shibata is Cage’s fifth wife. The famous actor, 60, met Shibata, 28, through mutual friends while filming his 2021 movie “Prisoners of the Ghostland” in Shiga, Japan.

They tied the knot on February 16, 2021, in a “very small and intimate wedding at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.” Cage has revealed in the past that he feels he has finally found the one this time.

“I’m really happily married. I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time,” Cage gushed.

The couple welcomed their first child and daughter, August Francesca Coppola Cage, one year after he made the statement. He once explained to GQ that he and Shibata initially chose two names depending on whether or not they had a boy or a girl.

For a boy’s name, they wanted to go with the name Akira Francesco, paying homage to the actor’s famous uncle, Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola.

Meanwhile, if it was a girl, they chose to pay tribute to Cage’s father, August Coppola, with the name Lennon Augie. However, they ultimately went with a combination of the two and landed on August Francesca.

Cage also shares sons Kal-El, 16, with Alice Kim and Weston, 31, with Christina Fulton. But August is his first and only daughter so far.
