Texas Gun Rights has informed the public of its appointment of Kyle Rittenhouse as its outreach director. Rittenhouse gained national limelight in 2020 after he was arrested for shooting three individuals, resulting in the deaths of two.
On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Rittenhouse announced in a statement on X that he was joining the organization’s outreach effort. Rittenhouse stated that joining the organization was an amazing honor and a chance to continue advocating for our constitutional rights.
He said that he was excited to head the Texas Gun Rights Outreach Program to encourage Texans to exercise their gun rights. Rittenhouse said that together, they can make sure that their request is listened to. Consequently, ensuring that their second amendment rights remain protected in Austin and D.C.
Rittenhouse came into the limelight in 2020 after he was charged with the shooting and killing of 2 individuals and injuring one. The incident resulted in numerous online arguments about racial inequality and gun rights across the country. However, in 2021, after a popularized trial, Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges.

Rittenhouse, who was 17 in 2020, had participated in a BLM protest in possession of an AR-15 rifle. A white officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, shot Jacob Blake, an incident that resulted in him being paralyzed and sparked a protest.
However, the protest turned ugly after Rittenhouse shot and killed Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, injuring Gaige Grosskreutz. During the trial, Rittenhouse claimed that the shooting was in self-defense.
Following the announcement of Rittenhouse’s appointment, the organization’s president released a statement reaffirming his position. Chris McNutt said that Rittenhouse’s rigid stance on the Second Amendment, along with his personal experience, makes him indispensable to the organization.

Jurors acquitted Rittenhouse of homicide and reckless endangerment charges in November 2021 in the shooting deaths of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber. Gaige Grosskreutz, a third person, was wounded and survived.
In response to the announcement, social media users were quick to express their outrage about the decision. Taking to X, several individuals have criticized the decision, with a user asking if there was no need for any experience in the position. Another user asked if he was sure he was educated enough for the position a reference to his reading issue.

Since his acquittal, Rittenhouse has given speeches around the country on subjects including censorship and the Second Amendment. He founded the Texas-based nonprofit Rittenhouse Foundation, an anti-gun advocacy group, last year.
The organization’s main goals are to safeguard “human and civil rights established by law, including an individual’s fundamental right to carry weapons,” and to make sure “the Second Amendment is preserved via education and legal help,” as stated in a filing with the Secretary of State’s Office.
