The 41-year-old “We Live in Time” actor Andrew Garfield is making headlines again. But this time, it’s about his love life. Fans are curious about his girlfriend, Monica Barbaro, one of the latest 2025 Oscar nominees.
According to reports, the couple has been quietly dating for a while now, and their relationship appears to be going strong as they continue to spend more time together. On Saturday, March 15th, they were spotted together grocery shopping in Malibu, both wearing baseball caps.
Monica Barbaro is a 34-year-old American actress who started training in ballet at a very young age and graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. Like Garfield, she’s appeared in many films and TV shows, including “Chicago P.D.,” “The Good Cop,” “Top Gun Maverick,” “FUBAR,” “A Complete Unknown,” and “Crime 101,” to mention a few.
Barbaro was recently nominated at the 2025 Oscars for Best Supporting Actress. She earned the nomination in her breakout role as a young Joan Baez in “A Complete Unknown.” Similarly, her co-star, Timothée Chalamet, also received a nomination for Best Actor.
While this was Barbaro’s first Oscar nomination, Garfield was also previously recognized in the Best Actor category for his role in “Hacksaw Ridge.”
Is Andrew Garfield in a Relationship?
A source confirmed to People on February 21 that Monica Barbaro is indeed Andrew Garfield’s girlfriend, and they are in a relationship. The couple was first photographed together, posing alongside actor Eddie Redmayne at W Magazine’s Best Performances party in Los Angeles on January 4. In the photo, Garfield had an arm around Barbaro.
Then, on March 2, Barbaro and Garfield attended the 2025 Oscars but arrived separately. Fans noticed them walking down the red carpet at the same time, fueling speculation that they may have traveled there together. However, they were later photographed leaving the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and arriving at Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s Oscar party.
In October 2024, Garfield told Esquire that he keeps his love life private so that he won’t be addressing any dating rumors. In his words, “I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone, ever.”

Garfield’s dating history contains both brief affairs and long-term relationships. In 2022, he was seen in London with “Bridgerton” star Phoebe Dynevor at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards. No, they are not. Andrew Garfield was previously romantically involved with his “Amazing Spider-Man” co-star, Emma Stone, in the 2010s. They had met on set, and their on-screen chemistry translated easily to an offscreen romance.
However, they broke up in 2015 while Garfield was working on the film “Silence.” A source told PEOPLE, “There was no drama; they’ve been apart while working. That they still care about each other. They still have love for one another, and they’re on good terms with each other and remain close.”
