In the aftermath of a police altercation, a judge was arrested at an Atlanta nightclub for an alleged assault. The arrest comes while the Atlanta-based judge is under investigation for ethics-related charges.
On Thursday, June 20, 2024, around 3:15 in the morning, the Atlanta Police Department arrived at the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge. The police officers had arrived at the location following reports of a physical altercation outside the clubhouse. According to the video footage released by the police, there were several individuals outside the building shouting and fighting.
Among the individuals outside the building was Judge Peterson, shouting at a police officer for trying to calm and de-escalate the situation. However, Peterson didn’t stop shouting and proceeded to assault the officers, leading her to be handcuffed and placed under arrest. However, during preliminary questioning, she refused to disclose her identity.
She was also seen telling the officer to “shut the f*** up” and demanding he not touch her. Peterson has been charged with battery against an officer and obstruction of law enforcement. Peterson’s attorney, Marvin Arrington Jr., said that his client was protecting a woman from an unknown assailant. He added that Peterson didn’t need to be taken into custody.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the Georgia Supreme Court decided that Christina Peterson was to be removed from the bench. The 38-year-old judge served as the judge for Douglas County Probate Court. She was elected to a four-year term, which began on December 29, 2020.
Consequently, following her removal, she has been blacklisted from any judicial appointments in Georgia until 2031. The decision came after news of her arrest was broken following her decision to assault a police officer.

However, this wasn’t the main reason behind her removal, as he was previously found guilty of systemic incompetence by the Judicial Qualifications Commission in April 2024.
According to the case filing, Peterson was found to have breached the Code of Judicial Conduct, among other numerous violations. This gave the CJC proof of continuous judicial misconduct by Peterson during his tenure as county probate judge.

Although the CJC gave its recommendations in April 2024, the Georgia Supreme Court did not pass the verdict until June 2024. In one instance of misconduct, the court questioned Peterson’s decision to sentence an American citizen to twenty days in jail for forging her marriage license.
However, the sentence has the possibility of being reduced to 2 days if a $500 fine is paid. This was one of 30 counts brought against Peterson.
