Popular Welsh actress and comedian Ruth Jones has called out Gwyneth Paltrow in a recent interview for mistreatment while on a film set back in the 1990s. According to the writer and actress, she made her movie debut in “Emma” which was played by popular Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
However, the “Gavin and Stacey” actress has now come out to say that Paltrow treated her quite dismissively while they were filming on set. She made these comments at Wondery’s podcast “Brydon &”, which was hosted by her Gavin & Stacey co-star Rob Brydon.
Douglas McGrath wrote and directed the film, and Jones played a minor role as a maid for the Bates family. However, she has now described her role in that film as a job that she will always remember for many reasons.
According to the award-winning writer and actress, she only had two lines in the entire show because she was a newbie. Regardless, she was excited to go on set and say the two lines that were going to mark the beginning of her career. Sadly, this did not go as planned.

According to Jones, Paltrow cut one of her lines from the script, leaving her with just one line for the movie. Jones was supposed to announce Paltrow’s character and say, “Miss Woodhouse is here,” and also say, “Goodbye, Miss Woodhouse,” when Paltrow’s character was exiting the set.
However, Jones said that Paltrow did not want the first line to remain in the script. Therefore, she asked if she could just come on set without Jones doing the introduction, showing no support for Jones, who was just starting out as an actress.

The “Hattie” actress felt really hurt by this saying that as someone who was just starting out, it was hard on her. For someone who had two lines, Paltrow cut off 50 percent of her script, and this was heartbreaking for her. Jones also noted that she tried to engage Paltrow in conversation in between takes but the “Seven” star was very dismissive towards her.

While they were waiting for the directors to shout action behind the door, Jones claims that Paltrow did not want to talk to her. As Paltrow was already a star at that time and going out with megastar Brad Pitt, Jones thought making a conversation with her was a good idea. So she asked her if she had any Welsh connections because her first name “Gwyneth” is Welsh.
To that, the “Shakespeare in Love” actress replied and told her that her mother had a friend with the same name and loved it. Therefore, she named her after her dear friend. However, Jones believes that Paltrow was dismissive in her response and did not want to talk to her. As someone who was just coming up, she believes that Paltrow could have been nicer or less dismissive to her.
The Independent has reached out to Paltrow regarding Jones’ comments but has not yet gotten a response.
