Dissatisfaction can be expressed in several ways and manners. So it came as almost no surprise when music icon Mick Jagger decided to express his dissatisfaction in an interesting way. Jagger, lead singer for The Rolling Stones mocked Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis during the band’s performance at a Florida concert.
On Monday, June 3, 2024, Rolling Stone had a concert at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando. During the performance, Jagger gave shout-outs to some prominent people in the audience. He acknowledged the presence of golf legend, Tiger Woods and American singer and dancer Joey Fatone.
However, he took a different approach when he turned acknowledged the presence of DeSantis. Jagger said “Ron DeSantis is up there in the suite. He’s having a date night with Mickey Mouse. I’m so glad they finally made up.” However, according to one of DeSantis’s representatives, the governor was not present at the concert.
The statement by Jagger was about the two-year conflict between the governor and the mega entertainment company Disney. The conflict originated in 2022 after Disney voiced its concerns about the state’s Parental Rights in Education Act. The bill is widely known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The bill regulated how much teachers could talk about issues regarding gender and sexuality. In retaliation, DeSantis ensured a bill was passed that disallowed the special privileges enjoyed by the Walt Disney World theme park. Before the legislation, Disney had a level of self-determination for its world-famous park.
During the conflict, the company was able to secure its development rights within the special governance region. Disney then further sued the DeSantis administration, claiming that they had been politically prosecuted for just exercising their constitutional right.

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, a federal judge gave his verdict, which was in favor of the Florida governor. On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Disney issued an appeal to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Subsequently, on March 27, 2024, the entertainment conglomerate saw an end to all its remaining lawsuits against DeSantis in state courts.
According to reports, the conflict between the governor and the entertainment giant might soon come to an end. On June 15, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is scheduled to hold a vote on a Walt Disney World development plan.
If approved, it would grant Disney the right to further develop the park over the next 20 years with a $17 billion investment. According to the proposal, the board had included a clause that guarantees income for local businesses. It ensures that already half of the construction work done in the park must be done by Florida-based companies.

According to District Administrator, Stephanie Kopelousos, the investment is expected to help the state economy in particular, Central Florida. However, Disney has publicly stated how the investment is to be carried out. Although there are rumors of the possibility of the construction of a new park.
The June 3rd, 2024 concert was a part of the Rolling Stones: Hackney Diamonds ’24 tour. The tour began on April 24, 2024, with its final concert on July 22, 2024, at the Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Missouri. According to reports, the band had performed 19 songs during its performance.
