Police have arrested an Ohio foster mom over the death of her missing son. Ohio authorities believe they have recovered the body of 5-year-old Darnell Taylor, who the state authorities had been looking for. The missing five-year-old’s disappearance prompted a statewide Amber Alert on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
According to arrest documents, police recovered the body of the missing boy in a sewage drain in Franklin County. They reportedly found him in a drain near his hometown of Columbus. State authorities issued the amber alert on Wednesday after Taylor’s foster mom, Pammy Maye, made concerning statements to her husband.
According to her husband, Maye’s statement made him believe Taylor was in danger before disappearing. Also, he claimed her comment made him concerned about the missing five-year-old’s safety. Maye’s husband told police in a 911 call that she killed the child.
Also, he stated that he searched the home for the boy before calling the police. Furthermore, Maye, according to arrest documents, held her hand over her husband’s mouth as he spoke to the police and said she “had a plan.” Hence, before her arrest, the state authorities had been searching for Maye, identifying her as a suspect.

Furthermore, they asked the public to report any information on her whereabouts. With the boy’s foster mom’s whereabouts unknown, the police had no lead on the missing five-year-old’s location. However, on Thursday, February 15, police received a 911 call at night.
The emergency call was about a suspicious woman walking around a commercial building in Brooklyn, Ohio. According to Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant, officers responded to the scene immediately. They identified the woman as Maye and took her into custody.

Afterward, the officials transferred Maye to a Cleveland hospital for medical treatment. There, Maye told officers the location of Taylor’s body, according to Bryant. She told police his body was in the sewage drain in the 1000 block of Marsdale Avenue in Columbus.
After discovering the five-year-old’s body in a sewage drain, police said they charged her with kidnapping and endangerment. In addition, the state police said they are working to add murder charges to Maye’s list of offenses.
Also, the police chief, Bryant, said they would transfer Maye back to Franklin County after the hospital discharged her. However, the police have yet to determine a motive behind the crime. After discovering the missing five-year-old’s body, authorities notified the boy’s biological family.

According to a police report, Maye and her husband have been fostering Taylor since May 2023. However, there is no indication of when things went wrong and what could have led to the tragic incident. “This is not the outcome that we wanted,” Bryant said.
“But we’re going to make sure that we do everything we can to bring justice for Darnell.” The state authorities say investigating the incident will reveal more details as they unravel. Also, police will announce details about Maye’s arraignment and court appearances.
