During an early Tuesday morning session, Texas Senator John Cornyn faced criticism from constituents after voting in favor of a $95 billion foreign aid package. However, he did not remain silent in the face of these critiques.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed his discontent on X Tuesday morning, stating, “Unbelievable that @JohnCornyn would stay up all night to defend other countries’ borders, but not America.”
Hours later, Senator Cornyn, a Republican known for his staunch foreign policy stance and past role as minority whip, fired back at Paxton. The attorney general, who recently avoided an impeachment trial amidst allegations of bribery and corruption, has faced ongoing scrutiny over securities fraud charges dating back to 2015.
“Ken, your criminal defense lawyers are calling to suggest you spend less time pushing Russian propaganda and more time defending long-standing felony charges against you in Houston, as well as ongoing federal grand jury proceedings in San Antonio that will probably result in further criminal charges,” Cornyn wrote.

Cornyn was among 22 Senate Republicans who supported advancing the aid package, a group that included Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The fate of the package now rests uncertain in the House, contrary to the wishes of former President Donald Trump.
Trump has vehemently opposed the notion of providing additional aid to Ukraine, and his sway over Republican members of Congress has increased as he progresses towards another presidential nomination.
Paxton appeared unfazed by Cornyn’s criticism. Shortly after the senator’s social media rebuke, Paxton fired back, labeling Cornyn an “America Last RINO.” In his response, Paxton accused Cornyn of aligning with the Biden administration to finance foreign wars over addressing the national security crisis at the southern border.

One user criticized Republicans in Congress for prioritizing political maneuvers over national security. “What’s “unbelievable” is that Republicans in Congress killed a bill that would have secured the border after insisting that any aid to Ukraine be tied to a border security bill.
What Paxton doesn’t seem to realize is that supporting Ukraine is in our best national security interests. And if the GOP really wanted to do something about the border, they would have. But it is painfully obvious they do not. Trump needs this crisis to run on against Biden.”

Another user took aim at both Paxton and Cornyn, describing Paxton as a criminal and Cornyn as a disconnected politician. “Paxton is a criminal, but Cornyn is just another politician who likes going to Kyiv for a photo op on the hill. With his bad blue blazer, he is clueless about what is going on. They had to flatten out the cobblestone streets going there because these guys don’t like their limos bouncing.”
