Last Thursday’s special counsel report uncovered evidence indicating that President Joe Biden knowingly retained and disseminated highly classified information during his time as a private citizen.

This includes details regarding military and foreign policy in Afghanistan. Nonetheless, the report determined that there were no grounds for pursuing criminal charges. Special counsel Robert Hur’s report brings closure to a year-long criminal investigation that had cast a shadow over President Biden’s administration.

However, its sharply critical evaluation of his management of sensitive government documents is likely to raise new doubts about his competence and age. Additionally, less-than-flattering descriptions of his memory are touching upon voters’ most profound reservations about his bid for re-election.

In remarks at the White House Thursday evening, Biden denied any improper sharing of classified information. He also angrily lashed out at Hur for questioning his mental acuity, particularly regarding his recollection of the timing of his late son Beau’s death from cancer.

The searing findings are likely to hamper Biden’s attempts to distinguish himself from Donald Trump. Trump is expected to be Biden’s opponent in the November presidential election. He also faces a criminal indictment accusing him of illegally hoarding classified records at Mar-a-Lago. He has refused to return these records to the government.

Despite the differences between the cases, Trump wasted no time in using the special counsel report. He portrays himself as a victim of a “two-tiered system of justice.”

Despite finding evidence that Biden knowingly retained and shared highly classified information with a ghostwriter. The special counsel dedicated a significant portion of his report to detailing why he did not recommend criminal charges.

He cited factors such as the high likelihood that the Justice Department wouldn’t be able to prove Biden’s intent beyond a reasonable doubt. The report also mentioned Biden’s advanced age, which could contribute to forgetfulness.

Additionally, the possibility of “innocent explanations” for the records that couldn’t be disproved was considered. “I did not share classified information,” Biden insisted. “I did not share it with my ghostwriter.” He added he wasn’t aware how the boxes containing classified documents ended up in his garage.

Biden responded to Hur’s portrayal of him by asserting to reporters that his memory is intact. He reiterated his belief that he is the most qualified person to serve as president.

Biden expressed indignation at Hur’s comments regarding his son’s death, questioning how Hur could raise such a topic. He stated that he didn’t believe it was any of Hur’s business to delve into that matter.

Earlier last Thursday, when questioned about the report during a private moment with a few House Democrats before his speech at their retreat in suburban Virginia. Biden reportedly reacted angrily, as recounted by two individuals familiar with the situation.

He exclaimed, “You think I would f—— forget the day my son died?” These individuals chose not to discuss the matter publicly and spoke anonymously.
