Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott has responded to Donald Trump’s consideration of him as his vice presidential running mate for the general election in November, telling Fox News Digital his top priority was ensuring the former president beats Joe Biden.
In an interview with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo, Trump disclosed that he is contemplating Scott and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as potential running mates while outlining the criteria necessary for a vice president.
“The only thing I can tell you is that the one thing we need is four more years of President Donald Trump,” Scott emphasized in his conversation with Fox News Digital on Monday.
“We were better off under Trump. For us to be successful, the one thing I can’t afford to do is take my eye off the ball. The eye on the ball means ensuring President Trump gets four more years,” he added.

In elucidating his requirements for a running mate, Trump stressed the importance of selecting an individual capable of assuming the presidency in an emergency.
“What criteria are you using to identify who your running mate is?” Bartiromo inquired. Trump’s answer was direct. He stated that he was looking for someone who could be president. He highlighted that no one is infallible and that his priority is to find someone who can be a good president.
He said: “It’s got to be who will be a good president. You always have to think that because in case of emergency. Things happen, right? No matter who you are, things happen. That’s got to be No. 1.”
In answering a direct question, “Who is your running mate?” Trump said that he has a lot of good people and a lot of good ideas. He added that he “talks to everybody.”

When explicitly asked about Scott, Trump expressed admiration for the senator’s recent defense and support of him.
“You know, I called [South Carolina Sen.] Tim Scott and people like Tim Scott, and I said you’re a much better candidate for me than you are for yourself,” Trump made clear. “When I watched him, he was fine. He was good, but he was very low-key.”

Trump also praised Kristi Noem; he noted that she publicly stated that she would never run against him in a statement of loyalty “because I could never beat him.”
Trump refuted any claims that his campaign had reached out to independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on the grounds of potential ticket. He affirmed that the interaction “never happened.”
The anticipation for Trump’s reveal of a vice president is in the air, and Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike have expectations of who the man or woman could be.
